but rob reiner and the screenwriters knew what they were harnessing. what makes "stand by me" great is that it's a kids movie...disguised as an adults movie...disguised as a kids movie. in that, we as kids grew up with this kind of camaraderie among ourselves but we never really had a dramatic story to go with it. so this movie creates that. adults movie because of the language, maybe even because as kids we don't get the underlying theme...but in all...it's a movie that really touches on universal themes we can relate to when we were growing up. we were always trying to prove something to someone else...we wanted a circle of people to be a support system. when we got that we were fulfilled.
This paragraph kinda agrees with what I'm saying.
Growing up....whether it be 12 years old or even......20 - we always expect this big "payoff" or "destination" for the things we are doing....but we never, ever get there - do we? They got their payoff.
