Veras has blown both his save chances and has allowed five earned runs in 3 2/3 innings with three hit batters and seven walks.

"A shaky outing," Cubs manager Rick Renteria said, "but he's still our guy."

No way he can be that fucking stupid.

Veras has blown.

Enough said. Ricky needs to figure it out quickly.

Ricker better have orders to give him the mop only for the time being and when Arietta is ready next week you can DL Veras with something and put Villenueva in the pen and have a seamless transition. Veras can go to Arizona to work on looking like a remotely competent pitcher and then hit some AA and AAA rehab outings.

Veras out as closer. Schlitter sent down, Rushin called up.

Thank you, Hoyer.

Schlitter was fine. Dick move there. Now Iowa has a better bullpen than Chicago.

Why send Schlitter down? He looked good the times I saw him.

Soon. He should be there in the next week provided there are no setbacks. Depending on when his last minor league outing is or was he could return to his spot in the rotation before Villenueva is scheduled.

Are you suggesting they keep Villanuena in the rotation?

Arrieta has much better stuff. He just has to put it all together. Villanueva has no ceiling. He is a long reliever that can spot start. Arrieta had some nice starts last season when he could locate.

Arrieta actually has upside. He has no problem pitching a shitter as that's why orioles got rid of him. But he does have stuff to be a great 4 or career year 3. Villanueva is long man outta the pen. That's it

At least Arietta has a chance to be a quality number 4.
