Absolutely they are going to lose 100 games. Wait until they trade away several of their best players and prospects this year at the deadline for "the talent of the future". And to be honest, I'm kind of okay with them doing it.

Baez can hit the hell out of the ball, but can he play the field? Maybe you trade him to the AL and turn him into a legitimate start of the rotation pitcher and above average prospect. If you want to keep Baez, maybe Castro goes this year. Whatever it is, they need pitching. I think they need to take a strategy that multiplies their talent over time. Getting a few guys here and there doesn't work if you want to have the funnel of talent they are looking for coming out of the minors.

With all of this said, Renteria may still make sense, even if they are only a 65-80 win team over the next 3-5 years. That said, part of me still hopes they get Maddon somehow.

Agree that I hate his decisions to bunt lately. But Matheny leaving Rosenthal (1 career AB) in to bat with 2 outs and a man on 2nd in the 10th was beyond ridiculous. Worse than anything Ricky did.

So far from what I've seen, his best attribute is that he's bilingual.

Yea some questionable moves and lineups, etc. but I still like what I see.

If Veras didn't blow, they'd be at least 6-4, not 4-6.

Hes in a little bit of a bad spot with the relief staff as far as who he puts in. Sometimes these guys over think themselves with I have to go with the lefty /lefty matchup automatically. That said I dont know how he can keep saying Veras is the guy. He was bad all spring and into the season. Its like Marmol last year. At some point you cant keep destroying the work the other dozen guys have done to get you a lead into the ninth just so you don't "lose" one guys confidence. Whole is greater than the sum of its parts or something like that.

If the A's can demote their 10 million dollar closer then Veras can be demoted or put on the dl as well. I like the approach the position players/Hitters have with The Ricker. He loves the shift and its worked more than its failed. The hitters are spraying to all fields and its nice to have some aggressive base running. I don't like his pen management. It doesn't take a genius to see that Russell has nothing right now and hasn't for a while. It doesn't take one either to see that Veras is a giant pile of shit who has no confidence in himself or ability to throw a pitch remotely close to the plate.

Veras is WORSE than Marmol. Marmol was a 2 pitch pitcher who lost the gas on his fastball and had a nasty slider (which isn't always a strike when effective anyways). The hitters sat fastball and refused to swing at the slider which was a ball most of the time...when they got the low 90's fastball they hit the shit out of it. Veras is way worse than that right now. His breaking stuff is 3 feet off the plate and that is being generous. Stop putting him in the game.

The only other thing is that he seems to act like its september with the expanded rosters. I don't like pulling a hitter for pinch hitter who is going to make the defense worse. Live and die with the lineup you made and then pinch hit for the pitcher with the guys you didn't start. He burned Olt and Valbuena because of 1 at bat last night.

The good outweighs the bad but he CAN NOT keep putting in guys that are going to blow the game or its going to affect the rest of the team's mindset.

I approve of the overall job he's done so far. Pulling Castro in game 2 for his dumbshit at bat won me over. But he's been terrible tactically so far. The bunting, the bullpen management, some of the lineups have been horrible. Jed, theo or whatever nerd on payroll needs to show him and Kalish a PowerPoint on why bunts suck and should be only very selectively used. I'm not expecting Joe Maddon with the guy. Just don't be a dumbass and so far he has been.

Jed and Theo are not doing him any favors as far as the pen goes either. Blake Parker and my guy Zack Rosscup are both sitting in AAA just waiting for something..............
