Ok,the guy with all the "pub" for being a great player is injured and replaced by a scrap heap guy. DJ has now scored 27 or more points in 3 of his last 4 games. In his last 5 games,he has had a 19 pt. game & an off game of 9 against the Clippers. He is averaging a 3-1 ratio in assists to TO so far this season. So can I have some basketball expert explain the difference between DJ scoring 27 points a game & Rose doing it? Does Rose put more spin on the ball or something? I know I will be called a meatball but I guess stats are only for the "superstars". DJ has been lighting up the 3's at a rapid pace, too.

I'm not saying he is better than Rose but I am saying there is no reason the Bulls can't give everyone in the East a hard time in a playoff series.

all jimmy is saying is the bulls might be a better watch in the playoffs this year then last year. i dont think thats a stretch.

and nobody is going to say dj augustine is better then rose, but you have to admit hes more effective with this team. stats prove it, the wins prove it. your eyeballs prove it too... rose was a shell of himself before he got hurt again... our only hope is he gets WAY better then he was after his first year off.

Augustine is a good player. He's not Rose but he is able to run and jump without breaking something.

It's unfortunate the Bulls couldn't have signed him to a multi year deal at the minimum or above. It's unlikely he will be here next season. He's by far the best free agent they've signed in years.

These idiots in the front office just don't get it. Their most dynamic FA signings in the past 2-3 years have been players who can create off the dribble. Those players (Robinson and Augustine) were brought in to replace Rose instead of to play with him. The point is to pair your only creator with one or two other creators, but they seem to operate with the idea that only one creator can be employed per season. The result is a team that cannot create shots except when rose is on the court, which is why they suck at scoring against good defenses.

Watch: they will drop augustine in the off-season because Rose is expected to be back, and then they will target Luol Deng in free agency because he can hit jumpers once Rose is double teamed, which was the rationale for signing similarly unathletic wings like Korver, Dunleavy, etc. It's just pathetic.

I don't get it either. They had Augustin and Robinson fall in their laps. I would argue Augustin is better than Robinson and actually better than Rose when it comes to running the offense. The talent has always been there. He just needed someone like Thibs to bring it out.

Yes, but I assume you disagree with me about what I see as the flaw of the team - a lack of secondary creators. I don't think the 2012 and 2011 teams were ready to win because they lacked supplementary players like Robinson and Augustine, guys who can create a shot when needed. They keep treating Rose like Shaq by surrounding him with perimeter specialists. It doesn't work.

I agree with you. I just don't know if that player has been available. IMO they lost to the Heat because Rose wasn't ready. He caved at the end of the games when they put LeBron on him. He didn't even want the ball. They did need a 2nd scorer that could create.

I know I will be called a meatball but I guess stats are only for the "superstars". DJ has been lighting up the 3's at a rapid pace, too.

I'm not saying he is better than Rose but I am saying there is no reason the Bulls can't give everyone in the East a hard time in a playoff series.

So now what is the deal? What is the difference between Augustines 24 ppg and Rose's? Can somebody run a season comparison between DJ's season and a average Rose season?

Augustin averages less than 15 ppg this year.

Augustine runs the offense better but 2010-11 Rose was a better scorer and finisher.

2011 Rose was a subpar defender but Augustin makes him look like Gary Payton. Rose didn't dribble off his foot at least once every other game either.

Stats are misleading, jp. I think Ricky Davis averaged 20+ once or twice but no one would ever say he was any good, except for maybe Ricky Davis. There's a reason Augustine was a free agent.

I don't think that is fair to Augustine. He has been a better player because he was given the opportunity and Thibs has shown him the right way. He's always had talent. That's why I called this the day he got signed.

But he's completely replaceable in every sense. There are literally two dozen or more PGs that Thibs could have this kind of impact on.

This. And yes nas Augustine is not as bad as Davis, I'd agree there.

That is true. We've seen it with Watson and Robinson. I would still like to have him back. Other than playing defense he gives Thibs everything those guys didn't. Having him and Rose on the court could be dangerous

I didn't think he would be that far down the list. When I didn't seen him on Pages 1 or 2 of PG's I almost went back to look through shooting guards.

He's an inch shorter than Patrick Beverly.

Surprised Curry is only minor minus on D. Curry's no bigger than Jimmer or Augustin. Curry does do a good job
funneling his guy into Bogut and Iguodala's help lanes but that seems like giving him credit for those guys being great defenders vs Boozer behind DJ.

Maybe not as dynamic as Rose, but he's def exceeded expectations. Augustin is a better pure pg than Robinson... I'm not convinced Rose comes back any where near his past ability. Signing DJ to a long term deal should be a GarPax priority this summer.

Oh hell no. You can bring a number of PGs this summer on vet's minimum to replace his production.

2 years would be as long term as I would be willing to go.
