GarPax should see what you can get for a combination of the following players: Noah, Butler, Snell, Mirotic.

Noah needs to stay. I highly doubt Snell has any value. Agree on Butler and Mirotic.

I don't see the Bulls ever trading Noah... I kind of think Augustin's defensive deficiencies are over stated. There really aren't many lock down defenders at the pg position in the nba.

I said to trade him when he was 28 and fresh off a All NBA Defensive Team appearance. Now he's going to be 30 next year, and I assume we agree that he's not the type of guy who can lead you to a championship himself. I still think you trade him at peak value if it nets you someone who is that "guy." Huge fan, but I'm an ageist when it comes to sports, and his value is just going to depreciate the longer he's here and helping the Bulls reach the second round year in and year out.

Don't know if they're lock down, but CP3 and Raon Rondo come to mind as good defenders.

Patrick Beverley and Eric Bledsoe are great defensive players too.

You won't be saying that when Silver's handing him the O'Brien trophy 14 months from now.

So 4 out of 30, and I'm not 100% convinced Bledsoe is a good defender. I can live with Augustin on defense. I kind of think his lack of defensive ability is more glaring when there is not a single dynamic scorer on the Bulls to offset his weakness.

Rondo is by far the best defensive PG in the NBA.

Having any sort of offensive punch covers up for him too.

Obviously not all 30 starting PGs can be superstar defenders. The 4 we named are really damn good. Michael Carter Williams will probably join that group soon. Jrue is really good when he's healthy. Westbrook is really up and down on both ends of the court, but when he's locked in there's not many defenders better. There are probably 60 point guards in the NBA better defensively than Augustin. Augustin just isn't that good of a player. He's not a pure PG either. He's a bench scorer who's totally useless when he's not scoring in volume.

I don't know why everyone on here knocks Melo's lack of team success and then wants Love. It's not consistent logic. The past 5 seasons Love's team finished under .500 and they are 40-39 right now and going to miss the playoffs again. Iirc, this will be the first year Melo's team misses the playoffs.

Word. If, ceteris paribus, Dirk were on the T-Wolves and K-Love on the Mavericks, Minnesota would be in the playoffs and Dallas would be a lottery team, instead of vice versa. Carlisle deserves some love for coach of the year and Nowitzki some MVP votes.

I think the Knicks are a bigger disaster than the Sixers given the expectations, the money, the star power, and the putrid results.

I give Melo a tougher time than Love because he's simply been around longer (11 year vet now I think) who has established a reputation of selfishness that may or may not explain his lack of team success. On top of that, here is a guy who forced a trade to NY to play with the players he's playing with, in this abomination of a conference, and the best he can do is a one and done series last year, and he may not even make it this year. When KG was in Minny, people felt for him because his teams did consistently well in an extremely competitive conference, playing deep into the second round, reaching the WCFs twice I think, despite a modest supporting cast. To me that's sort of the standard for super/star guys who haven't reached the finals. He may have done some of that in Denver, but what the hell has happened in NY? It's a red flag to me.

New York beat the Celtics in the playoffs last year and then lost to the Pacers.

I might be wrong about this but I thought KG and Melo each only made it out of the Western conference 1st round 1 time, each losing to a Lakers team in the WCF that went on to win the title.

Carlisle is one of the more under appreciated coaches in the league.

Vogel has fallen out of the 2nd tier of coaches after Thibs and Pop.

I dunno, I think JBills assessment is accurate. Carlisle is overlooked.

I pulled up a few recent "Coach of the Year 2014" run downs and nary a mention of Rick Carlisle.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nb ... r/7544581/

Hornacek, Clifford, Pop, Thibs, even Toronto's Dwane Casey and Terry Stotts get mentions.

Quote:
Tom Thibodeau, Dwane Casey, Stotts, Clifford, Pop—a compelling case could made for any of those guys at season’s end.

As it stands, however, I believe Hornacek’s influence has stood out above the rest.

I don't know if that's fair. Let's at least see how he does in the playoffs. It's definitely an embarrassing last couple months, but I think he's built up enough stock the past couple of seasons to give him at least another year or so.

The too 4 are easy for me:
Pops
Thibs
Doc
Carlisle

I'd probably put Spoelstra 5th, but could easily be talked out of it. I like what McHale, Stotts, and Hornacek have done, but we need to see more of them.

That's sort of a different discussion. Carlisle probably has gotten overlooked for the job he has done this year. I just meant in the sense that if you ask NBA fans who the top 5 coaches in the league are, most will name Carlisle among them.

Wow, I'm a dumbass. I think you're right. No way to recover from writing things that apparently never happened regarding Minny and KG, so I'll just see myself out.
