pretty boring till the last 10 minutes. Good job introducing Viper or as I like to call him, the most pointless character in the series.

I may be in that category.

I don't want to post spoilers here, but I'd be interested to hear why you disagree with that assessment.

Actually, I guess I can post spoilers as long as I do it in white so see below....

SPOILERS IN WHITE TEXT< DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW!

What is the point of the Viper character? He shows up, seems very interesting, talks tough and then gets killed 2 minutes later by the Mountain. End scene. What was the point of even having that character, especially when you consider the valuable time his presence in the books took away from the already established and increasingly neglected characters and story lines.

I thought he was interesting. I read the books 2 years ago but if I remember correctly we learned a great deal of background between Martell, Targaeryan, Lannister and the otherthrow of Rhagar in general. He wasn't necessary I guess but I liked the cat.

I just hope they do justice to the third book. It was the best book of a series I have ever read in the genre.

I don't get how Tyrion is the suspect. It's not like he went and got the goblet/wine. Joffrey had them all along right? Can someone clarify this?

He served him the wine, Cersei hates Tyrions guts, that's who she see's when holding Joffry. it will unfold during the trial.

But the wine was already on the table. Wasn't it being drank already?

I think it was a new jug he poured from, that or someone else spiked it or it reacted with the pie?

Im going to say it was the Joffster, you know, pointing at Tyrion as he was turning purple that might have given Cersei a reason to suspect him.

I guess. It seemed pretty confusing. I know that Cersei hates him because of their mom dying from his birth, but the whole execution of that scene didn't make much sense to me. It appears like a pretty big stretch that anybody would believe he was able to spike that wine.

Don't forget that Joff dropped the goblet and kicked the goblet under the table, and as Tyrion went down to look for it Sansa handed it back...

Right. But that would mean their poisoning plan was dependent on Joff first humiliating Tyrion, and then kicking his goblet under the table. Again, not very logical.

Maybe not so much a plan as seeking an opportunity whenever she's around Joffrey.

It's interesting how many people did touch that goblet over the course of about 3 minutes - Sansa, Tyrion, Margery, and Margery set it in front of the Grandmother, Diana Rigg. Or it could have been the pie.

My first thought was the grandmother.

It was a bit more spelled out in the books.

I think the confusion and lack of "spelling it out" was what the writers were going for.

Watched it again....

It was Joffry's cup the entire time, Margery takes Joffry's goblet and sets it down neer the Queen of Thorns and then Margery yells out "HEY LOOK THE PIE" and while everyone is distracted by Joff being a douche and the doves I bet the grandmother puts the poison in it. She kind of gave a look to Margery as well.

THERE IS YOUR LOGIC....IT'S CALLED PAY ATTENTION!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2W2xHM4cWo

EDIT: It wasn't a look from the grandmother to Margery but the focus on the grandmother and her look when Tyrion grabs the cup.

I sometimes wonder if the guy who played Joffrey knows that he was cast because he could pass as inbred--albeit the best looking inbred you can imagine given his blood parentage. Same with the plain middle daughter on Downton Abbey. Good work if you can get it, I guess.

I thought the scene went down as well as it could; though, I enjoyed the lead-up in the book much more.

I worry that when you find out who did it then find out who is behind it, it won't have that same "holy fucking shit" moment that the book had. Maybe I'll be wrong.

it has to be the queen. she became his wife just to kill him. i thought that was obvious. grandma spiked the drink but the queen set the whole thing up, she was pulling strings the entire event.

Watching it again, it seems pretty clear what happened. The book can be more vague but watching the directorial choices, I think it's pretty easy to figure out - combined with the characters that seem to know what's going on.
