After that "Toxic Avenger" quote, it made me think of this...

What are some of your favorite B movies?

I'm a big fan of bad, B movies, movies that tried to impress but are so horribly made they're laughable, and there are THOUSANDS.

But then there are movies like TROMA's which are delightfully campy, such as the aforementioned "Toxic Avenger", then there's "Class of Nukem High", among others. Another favorite, non-TROMA is "Killer Klowns from Outer Space".

Then there are movies that are cult classics, or B movies, that are just great, like "Night of the Living Dead", "Nightmare on Elm Street", and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre".

I used to love watching UP all night on USA, and I saw a lot of classics. And of course, grew up on MST3K.

It's not an old one, but "Jack Frost" (the 1996 one, not the Michael Keaton one) is hilarious.

One of my favorite movies. Definitely A-list to me.

Mystery Men. I always laugh at that one.

Nice mention guys, especially “Mystery Men” and “Ghoulies”.

On the “Ghoulies” note, I was a big Charles Band fan (pretty much the of the 80’s), “Troll”, the “Puppet Master” movies, etc.

“Jack Frost” was hilarious, so was the send-up movie I think it was called “Uncle Sam”.

Then of course there were the “Silent Night, Deadly Night” movies. Part two is infamous now for the ‘GARBAGE DAY!’ sequence.

Some B comedies: “Saturday the 14th”, “The Big Bus”.

I think we need the resident movie expert (W_Z) to set some ground rules for what constitutes a "B" Movie.

I'm extremely partial to "The Last Starfighter." So much so I also like it's earth-bound counterpart "Iron Eagle."

Agreed - that's why I ask...both could probably toe the line between cult movie and B Movie.

i'm sure wikipedia has a definition,

basically i think a B movie is anything that wasn't funded by a major studio. that doesn't necessarily mean that there cannot be A list actors, producers, or directors--it could be that they didn't WANT to use a major studio. but for the most part, it's any movie that has a low budget, and it always helps when it's a piece of shit...but entertaining.

"Willy Wonka" would not be considered a B movie, it was a "major motion picture". and if you have the DVD, it's an awesome story on how it was made and stuff.

"Rocky Horror" absolutely is a B movie. There was about a 10 week period when I went every Saturday to an old Maryland theatre that showed it at midnight, and learned almost all of the "audience participation" lines, even made some up.

edit: a cult movie could have been a major motion picture, but was a box office failure...and gained popularity through VHS and/or DVD. it could also have been a B movie.

Wet Hot American Summer - great spoof on old school summer camp movies I think would be a B movie.

Commando is tied with Die Hard for the greatest action film in history. It has everything you want in an action movie multiplied by 100. It even had Alyssa Milano in it when we were both underage.

john carpenter's early films are among the best in horror/sci fi.

"big trouble in little china", "the thing", "halloween", "they live", "the fog", are great.

wasn't a big fan of "escape from NY"...but a lot of people love it.
