Outside of paying respects to those who lost their lives in the Boston bombings, was the series of events, productions, speeches, etc a bit of a city being a drama queen?

I didn't watch every moment of it (and it could still be going on), but I would think a nice ceremony with a memorial remembering the lives of those injured and killed.

When I tuned in, it looked like a convention in a hotel conference hall and anyone who ever held a political office in Boston gave a speech.

I guess everyone deals with in their own way, but if was a member of my family I would appreciate the memorial and a few words, but at some point I would be insulted at the grandstanding of the event.

The only people who should have any lingering trauma over this are the few people injured and the loved ones of the dead. Everyone else is just begging for unnecessary and unearned sympathy. They should be referred to the MSFMB.

Yeah, I think so.

As some of you may know, my kid is in Irish step-dancing. The sister of the kid that was killed in the bombing was also a dancer and lost a leg. While I have tried to shield my daughter from what happened, it has been a topic of discussion several times, including at fund-raisers we have attended and as the anniversary approached. When you see the updates from the family, there is so much hurt and pain in their voice that you wonder how they could live on a day to day basis. There have multiple news stories on the family, so you know they are being inundated with requests about it.

We try too much to heal when its not necessary, or, something I hope is not happening, we use it for some personal benefit. Have a memorial ceremony and let's just try really hard to make sure this crap doesn't happen again in the future. That's all.
