Tuesday, 7:10pm
Jake Peavy, RHP (0-0, 2.13 ERA)
The righty will pitch in Chicago for the first time since the White Sox traded him on July 30 of last season. Peavy has been solid for the Red Sox in his first two starts, giving up two runs or less while going six innings or more both times.

Eric Johnson, RHP (0-1, 9.58 ERA)
The righty finished with a no-decision in his start vs. the Rox, but took a step forward from his '14 debut in K.C. Johnson struck out four and walked one over 5 2/3 innings, but has walked four and yielded 19 hits in just 10 1/3 frames this year.

Wednesday, 7:10pm
Clay Buchholz, RHP (0-1, 6.97 ERA)
The wiry righty responded nicely from a tough first start, holding the Yankees to two earned runs over six innings, but taking a 4-1 loss. Buchholz is 2-1 with a 3.50 ERA lifetime at U.S. Cellular Field.

John Danks, LHP (1-0, 4.15 ERA)
Danks permitted two runs in the first, but quickly settled down vs. the Tribe to allow nothing more than a solo Asdrubal Cabrera shot over the next five. Danks gave up 28 homers over 138 1/3 innings in '13, but Cabrera's homer was his first allowed.

Thursday, 7:10pm
Jon Lester, LHP (1-2, 2.57 ERA)
The power lefty has pitched well in all three of his starts, giving up two earned runs each time out. Lifetime at U.S. Cellular Field, Lester is 4-3 with a 4.20 ERA in seven starts.

Chris Sale, LHP (3-0, 2.66 ERA)
Sale certainly didn't have his best stuff Friday night against the Indians, lasting only five innings and allowing three runs on six hits. But based on the way Cleveland roughed him up last year, it was actually a successful effort. Sale fanned five.

Probably win 1 out of 3. Hopefully grab 2 of them. I really don't like our chances in the first two games.

Lots of fans will be dressed as empty seats tonight at U.S. (not so) Celluar Field...

Agree with FF, though Bucholes has struggled so far this season as have the entire Red Sox team.

That's really the only reason I'm hopeful for taking 2 of 3. There's a chance their hitters continue to struggle and our continue to overachieve.

The next four weeks are the litmus test for the season: Bos, @Tex, @Det, TB, Det, @Cle. If the Sox get through this .500 or above, I think they contend the rest of the year.

Contend?

Listen I'm happy they are off to a decent start too but if you think this team can contend all year the way the bullpen and rotation (Johnson and Paulino) is presently constructed/performing, well the you are off your rocker.

I'm expecting Johnson to progress and Paulino to get moved

Buchholz is very Jekkyl & Hyde... when he's right, he's downright filthy. He has some weird hitches in his delivery which add to his deception, but probably frustrate the hell out of his pitching coach. Hopefully we get Bad Buchholz.

I'm expecting Johnson to progress in AAA and Paulino to get moved to the bullpen

This is how i read this

I don't think starting is Paulino's issue. His control is awful, and I don't think moving to the bullpen will help with that. He doesn't deserve to be on a major league roster.

Is the UD actually closed tonight and those people get to move down to the lower level?

My rationale is that Hahn viewed the Paulino acquisition as somebody maybe Cooper could make something out of. Maybe Coop can, maybe Coop can't... but releasing him or sending him to the minors wouldn't align with that thinking. Some guys just don't have the mental makeup to start. In the pen, you don't have to pace yourself and can really just let it fly with whatever the catcher puts down there. Look at Glen Perkins and Hochevar; those guys blew as SP but are lights-out in the pen.

Johnson is still viewed as a prospect, and maybe he gets some confidence facing AAA hitters. Moving Johnson to the pen at the MLB level makes no sense, unless you are convinced he can't be a SP.

There are a lot of empty parks around both leagues.

I see losing pitcher Jake Peavy is still a fucking nibbler when ahead in the count. 37 degrees out, gets ahead and stops throwing strikes. Fucking 60 pitches to get thru 2 innings. Way to pitch to the elements Jake. It certainly is a grindy 2 innings you've given Ill give you that.

I'm really enjoying this. Mostly because I know the 40 AB, 2 hits, 27 K's streak is probably coming very soon.

Wow. Semien got away with one there. Should've had that check swing called strike and then Boston fucks up. I'll take it. Nice win.

Yeah.

And I know it isn't 1960, but if Alexei keeps "flying" around the bases like he's an airplane, it won't be long before some old school pitcher sticks one in his fucking ear.
