King of good government and the people.

What a crock of shit.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/loca ... 0148.story

For years, Forrest Claypool railed against "the friends and family hiring practices" of Cook County Board presidents John and Todd Stroger, accusing the father and son of running a county government that was rendered bloated, costly and ineffective by patronage hiring.

Now as head of the CTA, Claypool has hired two former top Stroger aides who gave up their county jobs amid allegations of unethical conduct related to patronage.

Claypool named James D'Amico to help manage the CTA's rail maintenance. Though D'Amico has no railroad experience, he is a longtime government worker who late last year left his county management post after the inspector general recommended he be fired for allegedly coercing government workers into donating to Todd Stroger's campaign.

"You're under a microscope in government," he added. "I'm glad I got my 30 years and got the hell out of there."

D'Amico landed a full-time job at the county right out of high school in 1984, county records show.

D'Amico, 47, is fully vested in the county pension plan, having served more than 30 years, although he can't start drawing retirement checks until he turns 50.

I thought the same exact thing yesterday. It really is a black eye for Claypool who has always been a phony about being above it all.

Which, of course, means that notification of the hiring came from a political adversary but that really isn't the point.

Awesome musicians, but not a huge fan. They have a few I really like, but as a whole... meh...

It has to be Laurino herself. She knew him from his County Comissioner days and he wants to keep himself in her good graces should he run for something again. My guess is Berrios told the newspaper.

If Claypool isn't Mr. Clean he is nothing and looks like nothing more than a lifer in politics. The guy is a fraud anyway and people like Carol Marin have been fooled for much too long.

Claypool always seemed like a three dollar bill.

It says something that Johnny couldn't find a job for his brother though.

D'Amico and Laurino are effectively the same person for clout purposes. She is just the political head of that organization. He defers to her because she is the alderman and his aunt.

He had to get a job that would lead to a second pension. That would mean either the federal (federal has already "employed" that family) state or city. Claypool was probably their closest contact with an available job.
