Listen I'm happy they are off to a decent start too but if you think this team can contend all year the way the bullpen and rotation (Johnson and Paulino) is presently constructed/performing, well the you are off your rocker.

I'm expecting Johnson to progress in AAA and Paulino to get moved to the bullpen

This is how i read this

well, at least you got the Semien patience prediction correct

I'm certainly not going to sit here and tell you I think the Sox are going to contend this year, but what really irks me are the media declarations that "this isn't a contending year for this team". Teams that the experts predict to be horseshit contend all the time. Who thought Boston was a contender going into last season? I sure as hell didn't expect the '00 or the '05 White Sox to win the division.

The second place team in the division always seems to be a surprise team. It can be the Sox this year. The hitting is going to get a little worse (old Tyler Flowers is starting to reappear) but the pitching will get better.

I'm just going to enjoy the season as best I can. I don't expect them to contend for the division, and having DeAza play everyday over Garcia really hurts, but still hoping for and rooting for the best. Last year and for sure under Ozzie's last couple of years the Sox could not overcome a mistake. An error or bad relief outing will kill them. Now they are picking each other up and fighting until the bitter end. I like that.

I still see them as about a 77-79 win club. But, thats not to say that they don't have a hot streak in them that could propel them to 84-86 wins which would absolutely put them in contention for at least a WC spot. I don't expect it, but its possible. I'm already looking forward to attend my next game against the Rays.

If the 4 and 5 pitchers change (not uncommon in mlb) I could see them winning 88 or so.

Unless Johnson can do what he did yesterday 3 out of every 5 starts, I agree. I expect good things from him eventually, Paulino is just terrible.

Yeah.

And I know it isn't 1960, but if Alexei keeps "flying" around the bases like he's an airplane, it won't be long before some old school pitcher sticks one in his fucking ear.

He can do whatever he damn wants if he's gonna keep hitting like this.

That old school pitcher should drill his own teammates. Alexei was 3-3 Sunday on 3 pitches. The fourth pitch he saw left the yard for a game winning HR. Somebody should have punched Axford in his stupid moustache for throwing the first pitch anywhere near the strike zone. I have no problem celebrating such a big hit. I would rather a guy put up his arms in celebration as he runs around the bases than sit there and stare are the ball clearing the fence.

I think he was 2-4 on 4 pitches, right?

Same thing, but it looks a lot dumber.

Steve Stone said more than once that he was 4-4 on 4 pitches for the game. I didn't see the whole game so that might be wrong, but my comment about Axford throwing a first pitch strike still stands.

JoeOrr, should Konerko have been drilled after he hit his grand slam in the WS?

I know you view sports and baseball in somewhat of an old school way JORR, but I have no problem with it. I view it similar to a WR celebrating after a TD. You don't want Alexei to fly around the bases? Keep him off the bases. Drilling him is showing a weak and defeatist attitude.

Like I said, I know it's not 1960 anymore. All of those unwritten rules about not showing up a pitcher seem to be out the window. To tell you the truth, it doesn't make any difference to me. Knock yourself out. Do a walking handstand around the bases if you want.

But I remember what a big deal it was when Jeffrey Leonard ran "one flap down" on homers. That would be nothing now. The days of a guy putting his head down and running the bases are long gone. Within the current context, Konerko raising a fist on his way to first and high-fiving Baines on what was probably the biggest homer in Sox history is really pretty mild.

I just think that "wings flying" thing Alexei has gotten into the habit of doing during these games in April is a little bit much.

I support all celebrations and retributions for them.

JORR is right. Some old school lovin pitcher will throw at him for that kind of thing.

Like Dallas Braden bitching at A Rod for running across the mound

Did he not shake your hand too? Or did he have his World Series ring on when he shook it and that got you upset?

Maybe when they have their numbers retired at White Sox Vegas Park, you can ask them yourself.

Never go Full Dallas Braden or McCann.

I just can't see how that helps the game at all.

To clarify, (it was a poorly worded post made from a phone)

It wasn't that I read you as having those thoughts necessarily, I was projecting what I would do if Johnson or Paulino needed to be re-assigned.

Paulino needs to be reassigned as a beer vendor or something. He's 30 and has always sucked. I can't figure out why they are wasting their time with him.

Hit another go ahead homer. Tied Frank Thomas's team record for hits to start a season at 15 games. Basically he's just the fucking man.

The White Sox are the best offensive team in baseball.

Right Now.

It's a small sample size. 10-12 games is like 1 game in the NFL.
