It could be we were all just drunk.

Oh yeah! Probably at least 10 years ago now, my buddy Phil (the guy who writes up the breakfast blogs) was hanging out in Wrigleyville. He saw they were resodding the field. The old rolls were being put onto a small dump truck parked on Waveland. He ran up, stole a roll and took off down the street. Some tourists were watching him with jaws agape and he yelled, "welcome to Chicago motherfuckers." We planted the sod at another friends house (who is a Cubs fan) and it lasted thru that season but did not survive the winter. I believe he may saved a small part of it in a flower pot that he keeps inside.

Going to need to break this one down for the class.

-One of your top memories was you not being there?

-Phil, was just hanging out by himself walking around Wrigleyville like Ronnie Woo Woo?

-He took the old sod and ran down the street after yelling at the 'jaws agaped tourists' "WELCOME TO CHICAGO MOTHERFUCKERS", where did he run to? His car or the El, as a roll of sod is kinda heavy.

-You then dig up an area on your friends lawn to plant this sod?

-The sod or a portion of it still exists to this day in a flower pot? Is it still living , 10th generation from the old sod? Even though it didn't survive the winter?

421 WilBus $1.00, get a transfer, exist 4th and Linden El Station in Wilmette, show the transfer ticket, free train. get to Wrigley, $1.00 Bleachers (Maybe $1.50). Kinda empty in 83, smokie links 50 cents, 3 or 4 of them. Try to get a beer. Game over, get back on the el with the same transfer that was only good for 2 hours, but they never checked, back to 4th and Linden, 421 Wilbus home with same Transfer.

I never said it was a top memory, just a Wrigley story.

-Phil, was just hanging out by himself walking around Wrigleyville like Ronnie Woo Woo?
IIRC he was with his girlfriend at the time, but seeing as how this story is, as I said, likely a decade old, I don't remember all of the details.

-He took the old sod and ran down the street after yelling at the 'jaws agaped tourists' "WELCOME TO CHICAGO MOTHERFUCKERS", where did he run to? His car or the El, as a roll of sod is kinda heavy.
Yes, that is what I said. He ran to the EL. I don't know how big or heavy the sod was.

-You then dig up an area on your friends lawn to plant this sod?
Yes, there were 4 or 5 of us that dug a little patch and planted it.

-The sod or a portion of it still exists to this day in a flower pot? Is it still living , 10th generation from the old sod? Even though it didn't survive the winter?
A portion was put in a flower pot that I'm told still exists. If you are looking for some scientific proof of exactly where the grass came from, and if its still the original sod in question, I really am not able to help you out.
Thanks for breaking this all down. May I ask why you seem to care so much? Does it really bother you that this happened when we were in our late teens/early 20s? And if you don't think it did happen, why would that bother you so much? Are you going to give the 'class' a quiz on this later on?

If every thread and section got pruned and all the board members left except Frank and Bigfan and it was just them two going at it every day, I would still probably visit this site daily.

How did phil know these are tourists. did he stop and ask, before or after he stole the sod. what kind of person says Welcome to chicago motherfuckers, to anyone.
You can ask these question, I don't feel like engaging him.

 If somebody really wants to know, they can ask me themselves in this thread here. They don't need to hide behind an anonymous "im going to run and tell Daddy" PM.

The Public wants to know. Give up the info!

But seeing more details have now come to light in this theft case, did his GF then drop the finger at the alleged tourists?

What role did she play in this theft? The mastermind?

Soon as you give up the name of the gutless person who sent you the PM.

Or, let me do some breaking down for the class. Nobody actually sent you a PM because nobody cares about this stupid little story nearly much as you do.

You are right on all counts once again. That's like 50 for 50!

I care deeply about this story, way more than these other idiots who don't see the significant legal issues involved.

I was at the game where Lenny Harris got his 1,000th hit.

My best memory was some weekday day game against the dodgers. Can't even remember the year or anything. My dad picked me up and said we were going somewhere but didnt say where. I was really excited as I realized where we were driving and then he got caught in traffic around Wrigley and some asshole sideswiped the car and tore his mirror off. He got pissed and started pounding Old Style as soon as we got in the park. By the time the game was over, he was pretty housed but we had a lot of fun. Dodgers ended up winning with a late inning solo shot. We made it home safely despite the sobreity of my father.

Two years ago buddy who lived 3 blocks from Wrigley and I were drinking and debating whether to scalped Bruce tickets. Eventually we got drunk enough where we thought it was a good idea. Grabbed two tix from an "honest" scalper on Clark & Addison as we had given him an extra $40 for the price he was asking for the marked up tix in our drunken math. We thought he was such a nice guy until we looked at the face value on the tix and realized what a couple of suckers we were. We sat 200 level behind home plate which were pretty decent seats seeing as it rained on and off that night. There were a couple of MILFs we were trying to sweet talk and they were having none of it. We moved onto a group of 3 girls visiting from Marquette. We hit it off and had them come over to his apartment to play some beer pong and drink. We both had girlfriends at the time so we weren't looking for anything. Unfortunately, their sober bitch of 3rd wheel was being such a buzzkill and she insisted they leave after the second game. Damn 3rd wheels are the fucking worst.

During the Toronto series in '93 my buddy had two extra tickets and was selling them in the parking lot. He asked for $200 and a guy said okay and went for his wallet. The guy pulled out four hundred dollar bills and I saw my friend hesitating but he had enough sense to just keep his mouth shut and take the cash. He was looking to get $200 for the pair.

I went to see Roger Waters play The Wall a couple of years ago. It was a fantastic concert. I ended up going with my wife and another couple from the neighborhood. The husband is strongly conservative and during drinks afterward, complained about the themes of the concert. See why I try not to hang out with neighborhood people?

Great concert, maybe the best I have ever seen. Wrigley did enhance the experience

Probably the most complex and elaborate concert in history. Absolutely mind blowing.

Not to get too far off track but I have read people's opinions as well as reviews that said Waters was a bit out there trying to tie the Wall thing into current political carp in that show. Either way I would have loved to have seen that.
