I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that if you search all preseason threads you will find yours truly saying if all fell right this is a 500 team and from there anything can happen.

It's a small sample size. 10-12 games is like 1 game in the NFL.

Jonah Keri on Grantland had a blog post saying that so far the White Sox have the best offensive turnaround between seasons in MLB history, and by a pretty wide margin. Obviously they are going to come back to Earth a lot, but I feel fine saying this will be a fun lineup to watch.

I started a thread while drunk saying 90-72. Now that I'm a bit more sober and realistic I'll admit it's probably more like a 88-74 type season.

I think TWTW is easy to mock, but is real to an extent. I think this team has TWTW. Except for Paulino and probably De Aza.

This is at least the second time Danks has come in at the end of the game, walked, and stole a base with 0 outs. He needs to play more.

Through 3 batters looking like he should have precedence over some of the jamokes that are being paid to come out of the pen.

I think both teams are decent enough but this feels likes two 60 win teams playing each other.

Nice to see Flowers get going again.

There's a chance Abreu might not be a superstar.... but he's not Dunn either. I like that he's not K'ing a lot during this mini slump.

Farve, I still think it too soon to declare on Abreu. I need at least two months before we know for sure. If we can get a guy to hit 30+ HRs with a .250 avg at first, I think that's good enough.

I think it is pretty clear this game was lost due to the pitching (although I slightly agree with Hawk and thought some of the calls were very iffy at the plate.) There's just no depth at all -- we'll see how it goes, but at least the offense is somewhat worth watching this year.

I always thought new hitters had the advantage until they have been through the league once?

The bullpen couldn't hold a two run lead for 6 freakin outs. Imagine if this pen was just average. Not good, average. The Sox would have at least 2 possibly 3 more wins.

Do you think the offense will continue being the best in the league over the season? I'd wager it'll even out. Offense will regress and pen improves.

Well yeah. Obviously the offense cannot be any better than #1, and the bullpen has nowhere to go but up. I don't think the offense will be the best, but I don't think they are going to drop to middle of the pack either. As Hawk says (a lot), speed doesn't slump.

Lindstrom is terrible and not a closer. Nate Jones is hurt so who knows how (if) he will come back to form. Scott Downs and Veal are absolutely putrid. Useless. What good is a LOOGY if he comes in and walks the one damn lefty he is in to face?

Walt, your team is playing better than most anticipated. Why not just enjoy it? You seem like you enjoy your team struggling more than when they play well.

The pitching is 28th in the league.....For all of you after the 2005 WS.....I would have enjoyed them at least making the playoffs. It's going to be 10 fucking years. I like to see teams in the playoffs....baseball in October..how fucking unique!

We're only fifteen games in it's way premature to discuss something like this, but this is why I can't really support the idea of "rebuilding" for big league teams with big league prices (and especially for the Cubs who haven't won in 105 years and now you're asking fans to wait a minimum of another five for certain and maybe more).

As bigfan loves to point out the Sox are rebuilding without calling it that. And I'll argue with him to some extent, especially regarding the fact that this team isn't specifically designed to lose on purpose. But he's right to a point, because what Hahn did do was go full retread with his bullpen. And I understand why he did. Dumping money into the pen is dicey under the best of circumstances and this team was unlikely to contend. But let's say the Sox continue to play like this and now it's July 15. It would be a shame to blow a season because you stocked the pen with Veals and Cletos and Downses.

I've probably got less than 30 more chances to see another World Series. Don't throw them away on me.

The Sox need to value the strike zone more. They lead the major league leagues with 74 walks allowed (in 138 innings). Take away the ace Sale and they are even worse with 70 walks in 118 innings. That's over 5 walks a game average.
