I understand that most of you Meatballs don't understand the significance of this pioneer of Magical Realism to your pathetic culture. For that reason I am offering up the services of my son Jason to explain it all to you for the low price of $250/hr, which will go directly into his 529. (Sorry, a 529 is a subsidized college tuition program). I would offer his time free of charge except that my Father taught me when I was 7 to never do anything for anyone for free. At the same dinner at the Claim Co. he taught me that if it isn't chocolate it isn't dessert.

I read Love in the Time of Cholera in 2006 and enjoyed it, but not enough to seek out more of his work, not when I had to buy every Philip Roth novel I could get my hands on.

I am bummed. Read "The Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" in high school and "Love in the Time of Cholera" much later. Great short story writer, too. He and his family did have a rare opportunity to effectively say goodbye over the last several months via Facebook, etc. Black armband day for Tha Consortium.

+1

Solitude is on the short list of greatest novels of all time.
