The real shocker is the byline is Florida.

Quote:
A 24-year-old Homosassa, Florida, man was charged Thursday with suffocating his 1-year-old son because he wanted to have time to play video games, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office said.

Cody Wygant was charged with third-degree murder and willful child neglect, the sheriff's office said. He is being held in the Citrus County Jail with no bond.

Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to Wygant's home after receiving an emergency call at 8:21 a.m. Thursday that the child, Daymeon Wygant, wasn't breathing.

Daymeon was transported to Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff's office said.

During an interview with investigators, Wygant confessed that he suffocated his son to be able to play video games, the sheriff's office said.

At about 1 a.m. Thursday, Wygant placed his hand over Daymeon's mouth and nose for three to four minutes. He told investigators that his son became lethargic and appeared exhausted. He placed him in the playpen covering him with multiple layers of bedding, the sheriff's office said.

Daymeon's entire body was covered, including his head. The bedding was tucked under the boy in a manner that prevented the boy from receiving fresh air, the sheriff's office said.

Wygant told investigators that he was frustrated that Daymeon was crying uncontrollably and preventing him from playing Xbox games, the sheriff's office said.

Wygant then played Xbox for an hour and a half and watched three episodes of the television show "Fringe," the sheriff's office said

At first I couldn't believe somebody would do something like this, but then after reading the last line about watching 'Fringe," I guess I can understand that.

Yes, some people are. Why do you constantly go to the well with this statement?

Too many Lawyers have really screwed our system up. What kind of Attorney would actually take a case like this one?

So just we're clear, Scorehead, you rail against "Barry" for taking away our rights, but you are just fine with doing the same to this guy. That is correct, yes?

And for the record, I am against the death penalty.

Against the death penalty NOT being carried on PPV TV, that is.

So in a case like this , what is the trial going to provide?

A man convicted or found innocent by a jury of his peers.

Who would arbitrarily decide who gets a trial and who doesn't? This guy is likely guilty and sin and should burn in hell. Who the hell is anybody here to deny him (or any one of us) the right to a fair and speedy trial?

I'm me Frank and yeah I believe this guy should be dragged out back and shot like a rabid dog . End of story. Sorry if that makes me a constitution trampler but I'll somehow manage to soldier on .

You seem to be some sort of hot head. People make bad decisions when they are angry. Reminds me of a guy who smothered his child because it was crying too much.

Thats fine, BR. You are entitled to your opinion. I happen to think people that think like that are a far, far bigger problem with this country overall than the video game guy.

How awkward it must have been for the other players in the lobby when he came back and said he just strangled his kid.

Considering it is Florida, at least 50% chance hes found not guilty.

Sorry rogue but it absolutely does. I can't believe you're actually saying he doesn't have a right to a trial. I would expect it from Scorehead. Also, killing this guy won't bring back his son, but it will make us a society who kills people. That said, I at least understand the death penalty argument. I don't understand the trial argument.

The people who get huffy about having suspects killed without trials after stories like this are the same people who want to require licenses to procreate after stories like this. They claim to be "small government."

I'm a little torn on the death penalty. If the justice system was perfect (which is certainly isn't), then I would probably have no problem with it. I do have a problem with putting people to death who were later found innocent. But that's just my personal opinion.

Is this a joke? I've never heard anyone seriously argue for licenses for procreation. Maybe in jest...

Some of our most so called conservative/libertarian members are usually the first ones that want to eliminate due process whenever they feel like it. While I would personally volunteer my services to take the life of idiots like him he still deserves his day in court.
