A good sign really as I see the Penguins continually fuck this up.

26% higher? Uh oh, better trade Darwin Barney for some bison burgers. The Plan.

We've gone over this before. That's only based on what Rocky says and pretty much no one is buying it. I've seen many articles over the last couple of years that show the Hawks are making a ridiculous amount of profit.

i dont claim expertise on this matter, but just being devils advocate this is something a hawks fan would say to be in denial and shame of their favorite team being a failure financially.

so

I'm not really a rabid Hawks fan and you can see from my White Sox postings I'm not an apologist for the management of my favorite teams, and I'll say this: If the Hawks are losing money, they should just shut down the NHL. There's no way that they aren't doing well since Rocky took over, regardless of how he chooses to count it.

I was talking to a friend from Toronto and he told me that if the Leafs had the team the Hawks do, the cheapest you could buy a regular season ticket on the secondary market would be about $2000. Maybe he was exaggerating, I don't know. He also said that if you're in line for a season ticket and it's your turn, they make you buy Raptors tickets too.

Leafs have the most expensive tickets in the league. I'm pretty sure the top 3 most expensive tickets in the league are the Leafs, Habs and Hawks (maybe Canucks instead of Habs or Hawks). Go figure that those three teams made the most money last season too.

I'm remedial ... I didn't see the operative "if" ... I thought he was contending the Leafs were basically the Hawks ...

Parking revenue, concession revenue, and rent from United Center events, all of which are revenue streams contingent upon owning the Chicago Blackhawks, are not counted as revenue for the Chicago Blackhawks. The profit margins on the first two alone have to make all the difference in the world between profit and loss.

Bernstein buys it, doesn't he? IIRC he's done the "The Blackhawks are losing money." show a few times. Hard to believe he couldn't find out for himself it's not true.

Why would a business owner want people to know or think that they are struggling financially?

So they can alter zoning to put up hideous signs on an old ballpark and accumulate more generational wealth.

"We're losing money, we need to raise ticket prices" is more effective than "we're fuckin' rich, we're going to raise ticket prices."

Also in the case of the NHL, the salary limits are a function of leaguewide revenue, so if you can protect revenue from being designated as Hockey-Related Revenue, that's 50 cents on each dollar that you don't have to put toward payroll. This is also why the league had no problem bleeding itself out in Phoenix and Miamiburbia while Toronto and Montreal made absurd amounts of money: more of that revenue was protected from having to go back into paying players. Of course, the new revenue sharing rules tax those teams pretty hard now and get that money back, $10MM for the top ten teams, I believe.

This is exactly right.

The concessions are a separate corporation owned by the Wirtz family and the money is not included in the Hawks revenue.

How is it fanboy when bringing it up is part of criticizing them for jacking up prices year after year in the face of increased revenue?

Yea, don't see how it's fanboy.

Wirtz said "The Hawks are losing money". People around the NHL said "No you're not, stop saying that", and that was that.

I see the same thing on that gangster forum where someone will say the Chicago mob is a shadow of its former self and the fanboys say stuff like "they're just as powerful just more secretive!" lol.

So let me get this straight. You believe that the Blackhawks are losing $10-20 million/year over the past few years, the same period in which they've won 2 Stanley Cups? Wouldn't that mean they've sustained similar or greater losses during the franchise's lean years? If that's the case, why would the Wirtz family have any interest in owning the Hawks?
