I'm not going to go that far. He may end up being like Chris Davis. I wouldn't really call that a monster, but he'll certainly earn that money. The thing is, you'd have to be blind to believe he might not hit 30 homers. To me, when you say something so dumb the way Terry did, it calls into question every other thing you've ever said about baseball.

And that leads me into the Ray Williams thing. bernstein is so positive he's right, so authoritative in his opinions, e.g. "this guy couldn't play today", "Lebron is the best ever", but not having any clue who a guy that averaged 20 for the Knicks for several seasons even is shows such a lack of knowledge of the subject matter that his basketball thoughts should never be taken seriously. Now let him drone on about how a pitcher's W/L record doesn't matter. Fuckin' morons.

The all or nothing declarative statements that BernSTINE hands down (and Terry parrots) aren't coming from some well of wisdom and deep sports knowledge. The more BernSTINE talks on sports the more he shows himself to be an ignorant STAT OF THE DAY!!!!! parrot himself.

His thoughts on the Cubs "rebuilding" process is evidence enough.

And his complete dismissal of the "W" for a pitcher is also evidence of this. He is like the teenage "follower" who reads Marx or Engels and runs around telling everyone that it's the BEST IDEA EVER and simply won't listen to contrary discussion.

I think if Bill James had created a stat called TWTW, he'd buy into it. I will come to Terry's defense a little bit here though -- I've heard him speak up against Bernstein when he gets too far over his skis on blind adherence to stats when discussing a guy. But you are correct in 85% of the scenarios -- much easier for Terry to say Yes than to formulate an opinion and have to defend it against the penguin.

I was talking about Abreu this weekend and a good point made by a friend - it's too bad we won't be able to see this guy play 15 seasons with the Sox given his age.

With Konerko and Dunn almost certainly gone next season, Abreu will most likely move to DH. Do the Sox have a 1B in waiting or any good 1B/DH going to be on the market?

If he continues to hit, move Viceiedo to DH and find a new corner OF.
