Actually I think you're right. Does this mean that Ann-Margret's not coming?

Oh great, it's That Guy. If Dr. Strangelove was on 196 right now I would have misquoted it just to spite you. "Precocious Bodily Fluids!"

Are we talking about FMJ? That was half a 4 star movie.

Exactly. Once they got to Vietnam it lost its mojo. Still some good lines in the second half though. "Easy, ya just don't lead 'em so much."

Kubrick's best movie is The Killing. Very influential. Tarantino's use of of nonlinear narrative is taken directly from this film. In fact, it comes off as a template for Reservoir Dogs. It's about a robbery of Bay Meadows Racetrack. spmack, you need to see this movie if you haven't. The main guy is the cop that Michael Corleone shoots in the restaurant, when he was much younger of course.

I've always wanted to see that. I bought his DVD box set in college, which did not include The Killing. I've never gotten around to watching Barry Lyndon.

Full Metal Jacket falls victim to the Stripes Syndrome. Great first half and such a shithole of a second half that you want to kick your TV.

Nearly every SGT I saw in the Army who did measurements for height/weight used to grin and say "I didn't know they stacked shit that high" after measuring us and look all proud of himself as if he was the clever motherfucker that thought of the line.

Full Metal Jacket was a fucking awesome movie.

I have to say that I'm a little mystified by the Full Metal Jacket hate. It might not be Kubrick's best but there's no shame in that. It's iconic. A cultural touchstone. I mean, it's no Over the Top, but still...

No. It's good but if you are flipping channels and Joker is already in Vietnam, there is no way you start watching from there.

Yes, "The Killing" and "Paths of Glory" are two of Kubrick's best works. When he got into his avant garde stage, it became a little more subjective and vague whether he was making great masterpieces or total piles of shit...but those two films are pitch perfect. i happen to love most of his work but FMJ is really forgettable after boot, and "barry lyndon" was very...very hard to get through. i've been meaning to give it a second chance but even he didn't like it. the way to flush that out of his system was to make "the shining"...
