The biggest Cubs fan I know called me up after the Sox opener and was going nuts about Eaton and Abreu and complaining about the Cubs. This is a guy who has pretty much been on board with Theo's "plan". He rightly pointed out that Hahn and Williams retooled on the fly without subjecting their fans to season after season of brutal baseball. And then he told me that when he spoke with Theo at Kerry Wood's party, Theo said, "I wish there was free agency for 26 year old guys." And this guy said to me, "You know what? There are good 22-26 year old guys available. You just have to find them the way Hahn did."

Plus Juan on the comments about not getting fair value back for Cassie.. other GMs know the Cub has a beast lurking in AAA at the shortstop position and will try to low-ball the Epstoyer...

If the Cubs hold steady, they still have room for everyone.

Baez at 3B, Alcantara at 2B, Castro at SS, Bryant in the OF.

Cubs’ All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro has left the team to be with family in the Dominican Republic after learning Wednesday of a car crash that killed four close friends and family members.
The team placed him on the bereavement list Wednesday night, which provides for a minimum of three days off the active roster and a maximum of seven.
It was not immediately clear who the Cubs planned to add to the roster in his absence.
Prized slugging prospect Javy Baez moved from second base to take Castro’s spot in his first big-league game at shortstop Wednesday.

There are whispers that the Astros may end up cutting a deal with Aiken. Not sure how MLB is going to justify this but it sure will be interesting.
