Ouch. A first place club, and three NL teams who should all be pretty decent. That's rough.

I suspect his brother, Dennis, will be better in the long run.

Starlin did have a knock today, so there's that.

Right. We all know it was one game. But you can see the type of players they are.

And if you don't see the difference between the Sox bad season last year with the very same team that had contended the year before and Theo stripping down the organization to purposely lose, well... but come on, of course you see the difference. And this is the third year of purposeful losing and embarrassingly low payrolls for Theo. I have no idea where the Sox might finish this season, but they've already convinced me they won't be brutal to watch.

Gordon Beckham looked like a sure fire HoFers after his initial couple weeks in the major. But you're right, Eaton and Abreu and Davidison situations are totally different.

He did? Maybe to a crazy ass fickle Cubs fan. I'm not suggesting that Eaton, Abreu, or Davidson are Hall of Fame caliber players. But I'll stack them up against Almora, Rizzo, and Bryant for their careers and feel real comfortable going forward. And nobody is constantly referring to the guy who found them as a "genius".

Now that's funny.

You don't want them to be Hall of Famer's! The more 100 loss seasons the Cubs have the closer they are to a World Series.

Get it?

 The biggest Cubs fan I know called me up after the Sox opener and was going nuts about Eaton and Abreu and complaining about the Cubs. This is a guy who has pretty much been on board with Theo's "plan". He rightly pointed out that Hahn and Williams retooled on the fly without subjecting their fans to season after season of brutal baseball. And then he told me that when he spoke with Theo at Kerry Wood's party, Theo said, "I wish there was free agency for 26 year old guys." And this guy said to me, "You know what? There are good 22-26 year old guys available. You just have to find them the way Hahn did."

You have stupid friends.

Waaaaahhhh!!!

.301/.333/.456

4 HR, 4 2B, 14 RBI - 5th best OPS for SS in the majors at .789 - only 13 strikeouts through 108 PA

4 errors isn't ideal, but there are 9 SS with 4 or more errors.

Trading Castro would be extremely dumb.

Also, another double - almost a HR. Hope the knee is okay.

I'm not sure you'd get value

You think he'll revert to 2012-2013 form or just the mental errors?

Plus Juan on the comments about not getting fair value back for Cassie.. other GMs know the Cub has a beast lurking in AAA at the shortstop position and will try to low-ball the Epstoyer...

If the Cubs hold steady, they still have room for everyone.

Baez at 3B, Alcantara at 2B, Castro at SS, Bryant in the OF.

I am fully on board with the winning is losing philosophy. Maybe the Sox can have both Rodon AND Aiken

Not quite the ideal way to get some of the other kids some playing time at SS.

Cubs’ All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro has left the team to be with family in the Dominican Republic after learning Wednesday of a car crash that killed four close friends and family members.
The team placed him on the bereavement list Wednesday night, which provides for a minimum of three days off the active roster and a maximum of seven.
It was not immediately clear who the Cubs planned to add to the roster in his absence.
Prized slugging prospect Javy Baez moved from second base to take Castro’s spot in his first big-league game at shortstop Wednesday.

Kinda sorta pic of the car ... http://www.elcaribe.com.do/2014/08/20/mueren-accidente-3-personas-viajaban-jeepeta-pelotero-starlin-castro#ajax/galeria/152288

There are whispers that the Astros may end up cutting a deal with Aiken. Not sure how MLB is going to justify this but it sure will be interesting.
