I like the kid at UB Dogs, but he's always so goddamn cheerful. Sometimes I'm not in the mood for chitchat. Especially if the Sox lost to the Cubs the night before.
You know, Neil Steinberg took a shot at him in his book, You Were Never In Chicago. Neil still misses Harry. Neil was angry because he offered to write about UB Dogs but the kid (is his name Joey?) never called him. I emailed Steinberg and told him the kid probably didn't want to impose, probably didn't really think he was serious, and that he serves a good dog, runs a good shop, and Neil should give him a chance.
Steinberg probably wanted free hot dogs for a year in exchange for writing about UB Dogs.
Steinberg got busted trading columns for freebies last year. Sun-Times cut his pay/column to maybe once a week and he now writes a free blog--probably an attempt to hook into a future source of income once the ST folds for good next year.
