Forcing him, no. Relying on him, yes. If everybody said, "Fuck it, I won't buy any tickets until they're good", they would fold. It's easy to say, "that will never happen".
When are the White Sox going to fold?

They've got about 14,000 season tickets sold and a very favorable lease. I think they'll be okay. It's certainly not good that they can't find sponsors for the Home Plate Club or the restaurant though.

Interesting. Would love to know how I'm being conned.

So let's recap:

I'm an idiot buying tickets because I'm supporting an AAA team.
I'm an idiot for not buying tickets because others are subsidizing my support for "The Plan"
I'm an idiot for participating in a waiting list for the opportunity to become one of those subsidizing goofs.

You got me!

You're an idiot if you really think 70,000 people are waiting to buy season tickets.

Sounds like attendance doesn't matter that much. How many season tickets do they have to sell to not fold?

I think you may have the highest ratio of hating on the White Sox:Complaining about people hating on the Cubs on the board.

I actually don't mind the White Sox. I've been to 3 games this year so far and have been on two road trips the past two years once to Cleveland and once to Detroit. But it gets annoying on the board with the incessant whining and criticism of the Cubs from Sox fans. Just returning the favor. :D

It's good to know you know what is wrong with you. Many on this board lack that ability.

The only team that could even approach a waiting list of 70K would be the Bears.

I'm not sure. Ask an Expos fan.

So are the Astros about to fold?

I could see the Cubs challenging that after a playoff season.

Actually, Im not sure.

Let's investigate this 70K thing. Kirkwood, is that for real?

I meant as things sit today. I really can't believe there are 70K people on the Cubs waiting list because they aren't even close to selling out most games as it is.

Maybe his number is accurate, but they start at 30,000. I have no idea, I just can't imagine that there are that many people on the Cubs waiting list. bigfan or COF might be able to shed more light on this.

That is just a list of people who have filled out a form at a time earlier than Kirkwood. It doesn't even cost money to sign up like it does for the Blackhawks.

Some of those people are probably dead or poor.

Yes, it's a screenshot I just took. Bigfan probably has a better idea what's going on but I'm just saying what the screen tells me when I log in.

Looking at the run differential for the season so far is pretty disheartening.

One run ballgames have been a bitch.

I'm not sure. Ask an Expos fan.

The other day, I was watching a Phillies-Expos game from the end of 1993. Dennis Martinez pitching for the 'spos, I do believe. Montreal must have been finishing out the year strong (though obviously the Phils won the East). Crowd was about 30,000, though Harry Kalas made sure to remark that fans had been invisible for most of the year. I found this interesting because it preceded the '94 strike that was said to have doomed Expos attendance forever. I never bought that; Montreal attendance had been tenuous since the province passed the language laws. I do know there was a year they outdrew the Yankees, though.

Lead the league with 11 bullpen losses, too. I've said it before and I'll say it again, had they have spent another $5-$10mm on the bullpen in the offseason, this is a completely different team.

They've been much better recently. And it isn't like the bullpen is giving up 3-4 run leads or anything. I know Veras and Strop each did once...but other than that...many of those bullpen losses are tied 0-0, 1-1, or maybe Cubs are up 2-1 when the relievers come in after the fifth inning. Not terrible.

Again, the Cubs bullpen is middle of the pack in major league baseball for the season. And that includes Veras being utterly terrible.

11 bullpen losses in 40+ games is staggering. I know it's not always 100% their fault or anything and the bats do deserve a lot of blame... but still. 11.
