I should look up Lake's swing percentage and swing and miss percentage.

57.3% of pitches swung at, 56.4% contact percentage.

edit: So looking into this further, his percentage of pitches swung at is the highest on the team, and his contact percentage is the absolute lowest.

Because its been a long, long time since that has happened.

A long, long time ago called last Thursday.

Wow...I had a good sense to look into this.

If Lake had enough at-bats to qualify, he would have the second highest percentage of pitches swung at in all of baseball, and the #1 lowest contact percentage.

He needs to take some strides toward improvement.

O-6 for Castro tonight plus the error thats the reason they're playing extras and will more than likely dump it.

Wrong.

You're right. I was a bit worried there in that ninth inning when Semien pinch hit for Abreu in the bottom of the ninth! He did start a rally, after all. That 12-4 lead did not look very safe.

Cubs in 1 run games: 2-8
Cubs in extra innings: 1-5

There is some redundancy in those two records but that's horrible. Although Renteria is a dumbass with his bullpen strategy I place most of the blame on Jedstein. The pile of shit bullpen they constructed is the driver of those records.

How is it possible their magic computer can be solid with starting pitching flip candidates but so wrong with bullpen arms.

Cubs are #14 in bullpen ERA, and are near the middle of the pack in most bullpen stats.

I don't think it is as bad as you make it seem. Especially if you remove Veras' stats from the mix.

The Cubs don't score a lot of runs. It taxes all of the pitching on the team, not just the bullpen. See Samardzija.

I believe they aim for guys who will be good for half a season with starters and they take long shots who might be great (but probably wont) down the road

Either way, this team could have spent less than 15 million and been a .500 team near contention.

A decent closer. (Francisco Rodriguez signed for 3.5 mill, although they at least got a guy, Veras, who was decent last year)
A proven bullpen guy (Fernando Rodney, Jesse Crain, etc)
Power hitting corner outfielder (Nelson Cruz)
