Spanky's thoughts might not be the same as my own, but I just think venues like that are just not good for rock shows. I think the seated venues just take something away from the concert experience. Not to mention the idiots that yell at you to sit down at shows there.

I can sit down and watch a concert on TV. From my couch. Without the cost. I don't want my rock and roll mixing with "Wicked" or "Rent" in any way.

I went to one show there and it was not only awesome, but it was pretty much a free for all. No one could possilby ask anyone to sit down because everybody was standing going crazy

I saw Arcade Fire there and had a great time. I've found the Park West to have the best sound.

There is a lot wrong in this post too. I will respond to your statements in the order they were presented:

The Chicago Theater isn't a rock venue. It does sound good as Frank said, but I'm with spanky on this one. It's for old folks. Sort of like FitzGerald's.

I agree on Jack White.

The Black Keys are an ordinary two piece rock band like many others. When they were at their best they were no better than the aforementioned Cash Audio (Cash Money) or Left Lane Cruiser. There are many more bands very similar to them. As for their recent foray into lite rock, I don't want to discuss it.

In no world are the Strokes better than Wilco. And I'm far from a Wilco fan. "Last Night" is better than any Wilco song just like "Go All The Way" is better than any Zeppelin song, but I would never say the Strokes were better than Wilco anymore than I would say the Raspberries were better than Zeppelin. In fact, the Strokes are just Vampire Weekend with better taste in music. I don't like my rock played by trust fund kids. Or Oberlin students.

The sound is good, if the band is on its awesome. And its not like I'm saying its the best place to see a concert just that its perfectly acceptable. Not everything is Red Rocks or Phyllis'

The Black Keys sound like Jimi. Nothing recent sounds better

The Strokes first album is perfect. Juuuust right for who they are. Last Night s maybe the 5th best song. But my point was just to rip Wilco

As for trust fund kids or who you want playing your music I couldn't disagree more. Every type of person on this crazy ass planet has a story to tell and can be interesting/inspiring.

Some fortunate sons are super talented intelligent socially conscious people. Some are heroin addicts. Both are capable of great music

Wilco is superb and I'll hear nothing to the contrary. "Jesus, Etc" is better than any White Stripes song, but not conducive to chanting at soccer games. "Impossible Germany" is a masterpiece. "One Sunday Morning" is another.

They're both rock bands. Julian Casablancas isn't capable of expressing emotional depth the way Tweedy can. If you strip away all the pretentious bullshit of Nels Cline and Glenn Kotche, Tweedy is a songwriter on par with someone like Jackson Browne.
