This teacher grabs the 6 year old by the face pins him against wall and further assaults him. Gets 10 day suspension without pay! I assume this has to be a teacher union max or something? WTF is wrong with this scenario and why does teacher still have a job? The article rightly asks what do you think happens if kid comes to school and says a parent did same thing to the kid?

1. The teacher should be fired. The first "grab" could be 10 days, I suppose, but the rest of the crap should be grounds for termination.

2. I love the "the school district would not comment" that's thrown in all of these reports. They essentially can't say anything. I'm sure the superintendent would love to get on camera and say "this idiot teacher did something so damn stupid and unprofessional, it makes all of us look bad and is clearly not in the best interest of our children".

3. My favorite part: The dad says "what would happen if I grabbed the teacher like that? I'd be arrested". Hey genius, call the cops. You've got the video tape. It's not the school's job to press charges on your behalf. Or, you know, call the TV station first to complain about not calling the police first.

You're all over the place, but I will say I don't understand the mindset of some parents. If this happened to my kid, the TV station would be the last people I'd call. Who the hell has the video tape of an (alleged) crime against their own kid, but wants to call the TV station instead of the cops?? Call the cops, spare your kid the humiliation of seeing it over again, along with friends, family, classmates, etc. The parents aren't doing what's best for the kid either.

Not that it is related to this but... At St. Laurence and I am sure most Catholic League HS up until the end of the 80's I guess had kids that got hit. I did. Teachers had frat paddle boards to give you the punishment "swat". Was better usually than a 3 hour Saturday breakfast club detention. In fact, in addition to the regular teachers that swatted at will the Dean of Discipline would offer you the swat with board or a barber leather strap or the detention. Your choice. Only stung for a while.
