Hi,
Some critics rate it high BUT others were upset that the action & good views of the monster don't kick in until about an hour in.

F' That. I just moved it from "must see" to catch it on DVD. It reminds me of the 1st Hulk movie which was an abomination.(snicker)

Like most every other god damn Godzilla movie? Wait, I forgot it's 2014 and we don't have the attention span to wait that long.

Phew, I thought you where warning me about an actual sighting. That would totally mess up my drive home tonight.

Saw it today. It was ok. As jimmy said, long build up, and the payoff was just ok. It seemed odd that giant monsters were attacking and the rest of the world seemed indifferent. There is no media coverage shown in a genre that requires it, IMO.

I'd never go out and buy a copy of the 2003 Hulk to give as a gift to anyone, but I don't think this movie is nearly as bad as it's reputation suggests. I've never been a comic book reader (Goosebumps books were my choice of reading material in grade school), so I'm not basing this on whether or not it was true to any source material/story, but purely as a standalone movie, it could have been a lot worse.

I actually liked the Eric Bana/Ang Lee Hulk movie.

Saw this last night and I don't think I could have loved it any more than I did...I can see where the complaints about it being slow to develop are coming from, but the payoff is worth it. They did Godzilla really well...his facial expressions alone have more personality than half the stiffs we get in the typical Hollywood blockbuster. Really liked Ken Watanabe in this too, though I like him in pretty much everything. I'd say if you have the patience to sit through almost an hour of build up to get to the really good stuff, then you'll really enjoy this.

this is finally what any godzilla fan has waited for, in my opinion. the monster stuff was the thing of legends...the people angle was saved by watanbe but i think making any suggestion that ANYONE could survive that monster fucksmack is ridiculous. you have to not just suspend disbelief, but right out expel it.

i loved the tease of exposing just a little bit, and then getting the big closeup shot. classic.

there is a great touch done by the designers of the creatures. first of all, godzilla looked amazing. that thing would scare the shit out of me if i were a kid (and there were a few in the audience). i'm talking about the eyes of the creatures. the rodan/muto's eyes were just grainy blazes of fire, nothing you could relate to or have a connection with. it's very important that godzilla's eyes are something close to ours. something you can look into. the best scene in the film is when godzilla looks at ford before disappearing in smoke. it's almost like the two share a connection for a moment. and you know that godzilla isn't about killing humans.

the climactic battle and fatality laid by godzilla was just fucking amazing. this movie got it right. there are some flaws mostly with narrative stuff (the cranston subplot never felt really concluded or shelled out enough) but as a monster movie, it's outstanding.

:D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D
