Phil Emery is a huge advocate of using advanced statistics to evaluate NFL players.

I know he's referenced PFF before and they hired the STATS Inc guy... but I'm not sure I've heard him on the Football Outsiders bandwagon yet.

He may also consider all of the stats he uses about percentages as advanced, too. IE, x% of QBs drafted after round 1, etc, etc.

We do know he uses a statistic he called "disruptions" that had Shea as the team leader last year.

I find that very comforting.

there is nothing advanced about what PFF does nor that analysis of QB drafts he did but it is a metric so it had some slobbering

and then he went ahead and drafted a QB in the 6th

That's my point. He may be calling PFF advanced, where I wouldn't. I would call FO advanced. I've just never heard him reference that site. That's what I'm curious about.

He clarified his point on the QB. They just meant you can't draft a starter in the late rounds to develop. They drafted Fales to be a backup.

I wonder how much the McKinsey bill was for that invaluable study.

He disrupted the quarterback position in Green Bay for 7 weeks last season.

And yet nothing changed. 8)

That is correct. Aaron Rodgers lost yet another home playoff game.

but he is wrong even there. Every backup has to be able to be a starter. Following his metrics, I would bet the majority of backups were drafted in the first three rounds as well...of course, I throw out his whole wacky reasoning as the majority of the entire league was drafted in the first three rounds.

Good points. You're right, I haven't heard him reference anything from Football Outsiders.
