Yeah, just like I'm stealing the signal of the Score when I listen to it on the radio.

Jerry Reinsdorf would have used lawyers to destroy every rooftop owner and make them all flee the city in shame.

Dan said that Reinsdorf would have handled the rooftop owners by having his lawyers go through every contract they ever signed looking for leverage to use against them.

It's somewhat unfortunate that 'Caller Max' was allowed to hang up the phone thinking he had said something of some value ...

 Was that the "The legal system was designed to be expensive for a reason" guy?

I don't think that is true, and it certainly shouldn't be true if it is.

It's funny how they're lamenting the masses "falling prey" to the rooftop propaganda while being part of Ricketts's propaganda.

But he was a business law student. Or Bernsie's cousin. Or both?

and you're not even a season ticket holder.

They're installing a business based on watching a game live. The Cubs should have left the windscreens up and never negotiated a deal in the first place.

$40 million for lawyers? I'm sure they're really smart, but that sounds awfully steep.

Right, and the rooftops (and their buildings) function as ersatz luxury boxes that neo-retro parks can have but Wrigley Field cannot. The Cubs not only should have made sure to capture that revenue stream, but should have captured even more than they did. Honestly, they should have bought the damn things outright. But to argue in favor of windscreens? Honestly?

a little over the top, perhaps. Buying them out would have worked better, yes.

If Uncle Jerry were in charge, Wrigley would have been leveled years ago and the Cubs would be drawing 11K/game.

Yeah, anyone who knew what happened with Shibe Park wouldn't say something so dumb.

To me, the argument is really about the bigger, stronger, richer guy trying to have it all. He wants the benefits of having an antique park smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood, but doesn't want any of the annoyances/drawbacks that come with it. Just like your boss loves the increased production your cellphone and laptop give him but he worries about stopping you from surfing Facebook and the CSFMB.

And there's no issue with him wanting it. It's to be expected. But what kind of moron roots for him?

Why does being a season ticket holder make you root against the rooftops? Because they represent competition on the secondary market? Aren't you, in turn, competing with the Cubs' box office?

You act as though there's someone/something that makes it compelling to give a fuck about the rooftop people.

As far as I'm concerned, the rooftops 'winning' net me absolutely nothing in any way, shape, or form.

The Ricketts 'winning' at least offers the potential that they will spend some of their fabulous monetary windfall on players that might net the Cubs a championship. Or, at the very least, it removes the easiest, most obvious excuse they can call upon as to why they aren't spending money.

I root against anything that "holds" the Cubs back from increasing their ability to raise money and then spend it on the team.

Hopefully the Cubs raise season ticket prices 20% next year.

So you're rooting against Ricketts? Because he's the only person holding the Cubs back from spending. Nothing is stopping the chump from dropping the jumbotron and signage. It is possible to upgrade the clubhouses, build a hotel, and spruce up the place in general. I fear the day he gets his grimy claws on the rooftops. Once he's done with them they'll look like the Times Square monstrosities in St. Louis:
