I root against anything that "holds" the Cubs back from increasing their ability to raise money and then spend it on the team.

So you're rooting against Ricketts? Because he's the only person holding the Cubs back from spending. Nothing is stopping the chump from dropping the jumbotron and signage. It is possible to upgrade the clubhouses, build a hotel, and spruce up the place in general. I fear the day he gets his grimy claws on the rooftops. Once he's done with them they'll look like the Times Square monstrosities in St. Louis:

eh.

Whatever brings in more money. More money. More money.

Oh hey, that space isn't a gravel lot with puddles of rainwater anymore. D'awww, good for you, St. Louis!

I know right? Instead they built what looks like a parking garage with a glorified exterior topped with seats and signage.

Hired Harvey Specter to convince Chuck Norris to resurrect Bruce Lee to kick that one anonymous "asshole" owner in the ass.

Good gravy, "Fox Sports Midwest LIVE!" must be the most depressingly Middle American sports bar imaginable.

Maybe they could start by building their farm system just like St Louis'. Id be happy with that.

Did I hear right that Drinky isn't working night shifts and weekends by choice?

I can understand you want to spend more time w/ the family, but I better not hear/read him bitching about his standing at the station. You would think if the guy is serious about a business as an on-air guy he would be looking for every possible to perfect his craft. Just my two cents.

The Budweiser Brew House sounds pretty righteous, though. Bet they have novelty jackets, too.

I'm at the Bud Brew House dude! WHOOOOOOO!

I guess I'm not a "real fan" since I don't feel like my owner should just be able to do whatever the fuck he wants to make more money that I'm not even assured will go to strengthening the team.

Dan said that Reinsdorf would have handled the rooftop owners by having his lawyers go through every contract they ever signed looking for leverage to use against them.

This is a typical Bernstein train of thought. He seriously thinks that Ricketts didn't have lawyers look at the contract simply because... I don't know - the Cubs didn't float it to the press? Of course he had lawyers tear apart the contract. I'm sure the rooftop owners did the same. But the Cubs aren't going to announce that they did that because it's such standard practice that it doesn't need to be announced and it would be bad PR. The Cubs have to maintain the image that they are trying to work with the rooftop owners even if they aren't. I thought the attorney/PR expert/doctor/basketball player/major league hitter himself would understand that. He takes public comments literally. Isn't he smarter than that?

FWIW, I couldn't care less who wins, but it's just stupid to assume that a major league owner wouldn't have attorneys look at a contract that he is in a battle over.

Fuck do I pray to the almighty that Dan has a next door neighbor who wants to put an addition on his house that seeks a variance that might inconvenience Dan.

Ultimately, anyone hoping Ricketts wins is really hoping bankers get their money back more quickly.

I'm not assured that all the money will go to strengthening the team. However, I do view Ricketts as cash poor and any more money that goes into his coffers is good in my book. Just my opinion. I'm no more "real" a fan than anyone else.

You sound like a guy who gets punched in the face and then feels bad that the guys hand got bruised.

I doubt the cab driver that Patrick Kane punched was worried about Kane's hand.

The Ricketts 'winning' at least offers the potential that they will spend some of their fabulous monetary windfall on players that might net the Cubs a championship. Or, at the very least, it removes the easiest, most obvious excuse they can call upon as to why they aren't spending money.

I'm not rooting for the rooftops. But if you really think shutting them down is going to help the Cubs win I think you're in fantasyland.

Also, listening to bernstein makes me want to pull for the rooftop owners even though I think most of them are douchebags. What is bernstein's interest here? Why is he so much of a champion for the Ricketts family? He doesn't have the Don Tiny/CoF argument since he isn't a Cub fan. So what's his angle other than hoping for a rich guy to get get richer? Does he hate zoning regulations? Like dolphin said, if the guy next door to him wanted to build something ridiculous, I highly doubt he would go to bat for the guy's variance based on the philosophy of a property owner being able to do whatever he wants. How about if I buy Cardinal Colorprint and want to put in a strip club?
