Once again the "This sucks but I can't name something that doesn't suck" is a pretty useless statement to make.

You hate all sitcoms. It's cool. Just like you don't get science, maybe you don't get sitcoms.

I don't get why people watch shitty sitcoms, I guess.

Although your proclamation of "Scientists fact check the jokes so the show is funny and different!" or something whatever is pretty damn dumb. Maybe you aren't as smart as you portray yourself to be on this here message board? I mean, using a bad and unfunny sitcom to prove to the world that you "get science" probably means that you don't get science....or good sitcoms.

Anyways, not one of your best trolling attempts, you can do better. Not much room to work with when your pinning your brain on a bad sitcom that dumb people like.

Read please. I didn't say it was funny because of that. I said it was different and not formulaic because of that, unless of course you can name all the other science-based sitcoms on television. How many more times do I have to explain it to you?

I don't portray myself as being smart on here. Thanks for the compliment though!

Parks and Recreation

I didn't watch Parks and Recreation it's first year because it seemed too much like The Office. I kept hearing how good it was and eventually started watching towards the end of Season 2, then watched Season 3, and rented Season 1 on DVD. I think April's character is awful. She's supposed to be snarky/quirky/witty/whatever, but she's not. Her lines are pointlessly mean-spirited and not funny, and she's kinda dumb. Tom is a muppet. The other characters are sometimes funny and I mainly keep watching out of habit. It's good that it's ending.

I think the last legitimately funny episode I recall from the last several seasons was from this past season when the episode focused on the guys doing things to celebrate Ben's birthday.
Pretty much my exact thoughts.

I keep waiting for it to finally click. It hasn't, and it's ending soon. I think it's just a case of "You must love Amy Poehler because she is almost really funny but realistically she's not that funny and if it wasn't for Tina Fey she's probably Cheri O'Teri".

So it's different because "scientists" fact check the jokes?

That's silly, BRick....even for you. It's the epitome of a paint by numbers sitcom.

Yes. They are involved in the writing of them. They attempt to make jokes that no other sitcom would try and make because it wouldn't even fit. They are building jokes about actual concepts of string theory and Schrodinger's cat and other things. It's a fact that is significantly different because no one else is doing it or has even really tried to do it. This isn't an opinion. It's a fact.

Name the closest sitcom to it then. Oh that's right, you don't know of any because you don't watch them yet you have an expert opinion on this specific one.

Please learn to read, I said that I actually gave Big Bang Theory a shot....it sucked and was paint by numbers.

As for "building jokes" around concepts and science....who gives a fuck? The jokes aren't funny, the actual situations the show presents aren't funny nor original.

No one else is doing it? What is "it," exactly? Bad television? dull, unoriginal sitcoms? Oh, but the jokes are about far out things like science so it's totally fresh and original.

I don't care if you don't like it. You don't like sitcoms at all. It's fine. I think a lot of things suck too.

It's just not accurate to say it is unoriginal. That's it. That is why you won't name the sitcom that is closest to it.

It has moments of being really great but more and more I find the show boring and uninteresting. There are whole episodes that go by where I don't even crack a smile, and ultimately a show named after a comedian should be funny at least once per episode.

Other nominees:
Parks and Recreation
Community(well, not any more)

Agree on Louie. The only parts that are good are the stand up segments.

Community needs to be rated to be overrated. That show has sucked for a couple seasons. I axed it before the networks did.

I do enjoy Parks and Recs, but its definitely not one of my favorites.

I've only seen the show in re-runs but I struggle to understand how the characters could become more cliched. From the beginning they were brainy geeks who are awkward around women, love comic book superheroes, Star Trek, video games, etc... There's also the rather dim, (supposedly) hot blonde who makes fun of them and ends up dating one despite the obvious mismatch. Maybe the real-life scientists provided that insight as well.

Fair point.

I guess I meant they got more extreme in the cliches. Sheldon got more tough to live with. Howard got even more creepy. Penny got even dumber(but then less dumb I guess). Leonard was even more desperate.

If the show starts to suck I will stop watching it. If it continues to be a good show I will continue to watch it.

It's on HBO so it doesn't really have to play down to the lowest common denominator like Two and Half Men or it's identical twin The Big Bang Theory.

Good plan. I'm sure this strategy will one day result in you being able to name a sitcom you like!

Parks & Rec has declined the last couple of years, but was terrific at its peak.

I'd put in a vote for Archer, which is essentially Family Guy for grad students.

I'd vote for Walking Dead. Although maybe it stopped sucking as much in the past year that I haven't watched.

This is pedantic, but I actually think Walking Dead is the most properly rated show on television. Literally every person I know who watches it, myself included, thinks it's hackneyed crapola.

I was worried that it wouldn't translate well to the non-programmers of the world. However, that whole area is so messed up I guess it translates.

The best part is that a majority of the things that happen on the show are based on real stories.
