I'm surprised no one has posted a "should the Cubs move out of Wrigley Field" poll yet.

Forbes: 2013 Astros most profitable MLB team ever

The Astros averaged less than 20,000 in attendance for home games. They also had a much cheaper average ticket than the Cubs did.

And they are located in downtown Houston so I'm not sure why. Interesting case study. But still....most profitable.

The TV deals and advertising is where the real money is. Even if I give you a reduced attendance if the Cubs were in the suburbs (which I will not, because it wouldn't be the case), the Cubs would more than make up that money through the additional advertising revenue, and parking revenue, etc etc..

I think there was some dispute with this article, but you are ignoring how profitability is computed to make your point. Profitability is a comprised not just of revenue, but it is revenue less expenses. Last year the Astros had a payroll of about 42 cents. I'm guessing if the Cubs had the payroll of the Astros, they would have been more profitable.

Here are three fans I saw today taking pictures of each other in front of Wrigley Field. As I was stopped at the light I yelled out the window to them that there was a newer stadium with more amenities in Hoffman Estates called the Sears Centre and that they should really head out there to grab some great pics. My light turned green or I would have recommended Cooper's Hawk for lunch.

Is it possible the Cubs could play a few games in Wrigley Field and also play more night games at their new park?

Of course not. And that's why a phony threat wouldn't work.

Wouldnt hurt. And saying they are DEFINITELY staying was a terrible move. No reason for that.

Well, you and I disagree there. Everyone involved knew they weren't going anywhere and taking such a posture would have been an obvious idle threat and started any negotiation off on a bad faith basis. The Cubs got a ton of concessions from the City. If you only get your news on this story from the Score, I can understand how you might think the Cubs have gotten fucked.

The Cubs are the villains here without any doubt. They keep changing the parameters. They demanded all this stuff from the City, got it, and now refuse to follow through on their end. Personally, I think Ricketts may be using the rooftops as a scapegoat because his daddy isn't loosening those purse strings to get shit started.

I dont think the Cubs are getting fucked. I have avoided this story for the most part.

But, there was no need to say Were staying in Wrigley. That was giving up possible leverage. Even if it wasnt, what did it accomplish?

I don't think they ever had leverage that way. Only a lunatic could think they might walk away from that cash cow. It would be like that guy in the movies who points the gun when you know he's not going to fire. All the pointing achieves is to get the other guy really infuriated.

Jorr to Car Salesman: "First of all let me say that I am definitely buying my Car from you & no one else. Now whats my price?"

I would love to negotiate with you.

Bad analogy. It's more like there are only three cars in the world and everyone knows that two of them don't run too well. The Cubs are negotiating with the guy who has the single car that runs good. It would be ridiculous to say "Fuck you, I've got all kinds of other cars I can buy." And the seller knows it's bullshit.

Bad analogy. It's more like there are only three motor vehicles in the world, and everyone recognizes them as a hybrid, an SUV, and a sports car. The guy is used to having a sports car, but he also realizes there are (different) pros and cons to each of the other two choices. He may not get the speed of the sports car, but he will make up for it with the gas mileage on the hybrid or the utility of the SUV.

Your analogy isn't bad. I just think you're overstating the value of the other two vehicles.

Cubs prez Crane Kenney expecting lawsuit from rooftops but holds that outfield signs are "expansion" of the park and don't violate terms.

This is going have a horrific ending. Whatever Crane Kenney touches turns into a grim disaster.

I actually like the look of the script "Wrigley Field" but of course that'll say State Farm, Verizon or whatever stupid sponsorship they sell the space to. The signs in the foul area are miserable and the two jumbotrons are an eyesore. The light towers look horrible and totally out of place. What wreck.

That is why they should build a brand new stadium.

Wow - we're getting angry at mockups.

Also... dem field proportions though. Good luck patrolling right field Soler!

Well, mock-ups are the idealistic best case scenario. So if a mock-up looks horrible I'm scared to see what the real life finished product will look like.

Is this a drawing of their latest plan? Because I thought they were asking to put LED signs all over the outfield. Somehow I don't think it will look quite so quaint. Probably more like Times Square or Las Vegas Boulevard.
