Militias don't normally fight on foreign soil.

Hence my point about rights and free speech and 4th amendment and on and on. IMHO those founders got stuff right to keep us guessing after 250 and whatever years.

Please post the definition Thomas Jefferson used, because "well regulated" means keeping a militia available at a high rate of speed so it is maintained properly and ready for use.

I think private citizens should have the right to own guns, generally speaking. But the 2nd amendment is vague and obviously worded based upon the times in which it was written. "Arms" was clear back then. Today it's not. So we rely on politically-connected appointees to define it for us. Not ideal.

Nothing personal Mike, but I don't think Madison was trying to dick with us regarding our inalienable rights.

The 4th amendment isnt confusing. The local, state, and federal governments don't violate it because it's hard to define. They violate it because it's annoying to them.

No I don't think dick with us. I was trying to get to the fact that they were mostly spot on and got it right for this constitution to last this long. We are ahead of the curve as far as number of years as a country with the same original form of government based on the constitution.

The entire point of the Second Amendment was that the framers did not want to have a standing army. If you want to go back to original intent, then the Second Amendment doesn't apply to anybody anymore since we spend trillions of dollars each year on our standing army.

There's plenty of books on the subject. Find some. Read something other than talking points.

I took the fact that you didn't respond to my statement as acceptance that it easily defeated your silly little claim.

Thomas Jefferson would likely be one of them.

 I see you confused yourself. That's awesome. FYI, YOU were talking about your post which tried to claim I wasn't a libertarian because I don't adhere to it in the most extreme of circumstances. You weren't talking about your ignorant post implying that Thomas Jefferson defined well regulated.

No this is response is what's ignorant. Jefferson and Madison didn't want a standing army. That was the basis of the second amendment.

And if you are a true libertarian then you don't believe in government regulation of any kind. Be it a Glock or a nuke.

FYI... show me where this says "self defense"
Quote:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

And if we'd like to talk about answering questions, BRick still hasn't given us the date that he is supposed to report with his weapon for the militia.

Technically, I would call myself a voluntaryist. In our current political climate, for all intents and purposes, I'm a libertarian. That doesn't mean I have to strictly believe and promote every single idea of that philosophy at its utmost extreme. I realize as a Democrat you are probably unfamiliar with this type of approach to politics.

Sooooo that's why I favor a balanced budget amendment and support Second Amendment ownership rights then right?

Boy and you claim I don't pay attention to people's views.

Don't bother I tried a while ago to simply say I have Libertarian leanings and made the mistake of calling myself one. There is no good end to the discussion.

That sounds like a case against the United States having a standing army. Also, if they didn't want a standing army, they should have put it down on paper like they did other things. If Thomas Jefferson didn't want a standing army in the United States, then he is an idiot.
