I watch the first season, skipped the 2nd, got back into it for the 3rd. It's an alright sitcom. Totally agree on April. If Andy wasn't such a dope, he'd probably have belted her across the chops already. I think she REEEEEEEEEEEEALY tries to be VEEEEEEEEEEEERY dead-pan, but it usually doesn't work.

I agree w/ all on Big Bang Theory. Never got into it. Jim Parsons is just ugh.

there is no change to the formula in a sitcom, nothing revolutionary at all since its inception. they all follow the same format. while there are innovative semantic techniques, the structure of the sitcom has never changed. there are some shows that tow the line between comedy and drama but it's all pretty much the same.

i've rediscovered lately that one of the best sitcoms from the 90's was "NewsRadio". the writing was incredibly sharp, and I liked that it had no real continuity. it really makes me miss phil hartman though. i think of "NewsRadio" as sort of the 90's "Taxi". outstanding ensemble cast, extremely well done, but too short lived. you can blame andy dick and brynn hartman for that though.

NewsRadio was great, at least it was until Phil was killed. I have the first two seasons on DVD but haven't watched them in a long time. I'll have to get them out again. I didn't see many of the episodes with Lovitz as Max Lewis, and vaguely remember seeing parts of a few episodes with Patrick Warburton. I don't really know what was going on at that point in the show.

Speaking of ensemble casts, I think (the original) WKRP in Cincinnati is one of the the best sitcoms of all time. It was only on for four seasons, so it wasn't on long enough to get stale or to run out of legitimately good storylines. It's my favorite.

Parks n Rec and Community is one big show to me. Can never tell em apart. They're just "The Office" spin offs really

Parks n Rec had a two year run where it was great, but it just took awhile for the show to find some direction. The last season of Community was also very good with the return of Harmon running the show, but it was horrendously bad the previous couple of seasons.

I've recently seen a few reruns of P&R .... since it's all basically new to me, I think Offerman's character is about the funniest thing I've seen in a while. I can't fucking stand Jugdish though ... his standup is also worse than Katt Williams', which makes them both worse than Dane Cook by extension ... I'm pretty sure Frank and BF reading from the Quran would be considerably funnier.

I like the guys who can seem like they're just talking. Just a funny guy.

I would assume Carolla doesn't do a lot of joke telling either. or a guy like Joel McHale.

There seems to be quite a few guys these days that do these types of "shows".

Yeah, storytelling has long been a part of standup. Carolla and Mchale are both guys that just seem funny to me. Aziz comes off like a writer reciting his pre written bits.

Not just him. A lot of comedians are that way. Its like half and half. I just much prefer the guys who are either "off the cuff hilarious" or can make it seem like they're "off the cuff hilarious"

So these guys were all on the James Franco roast on Comedy Central.

The funniest off the cuff: Jeffrey Ross

The funniest on the cuff: Andy Samberg (believe it or not).

The rest: meh.

Forgot to mention that one the few things I find funny on Parks and Recreation these days is the new-ish guy who yells. Initially, a guy just yelling everything doesn't sound like something that would be all that funny, but his facial expressions and they way he delivers the lines is usually funny to me.

Carolla wasnt and is better than Ross, imo

Ross is good though.

Bill Hader was great. Samberg's bit sucked.

Truth. I've fallen off the Ron Swanson bandwagon. He probably had a run of two years as the funniest character on TV, but that ship has sailed as they have made him a father, and trying to humanize him now.

I used to love this show, but it probably should have ended with this season.
