Berns is what they call back in the old country...a cheapskate. For God sakes, he buys expired meat & produce.

YMCA is quite sensible if your goal is to jog on a treadmill and pretend to lift some weights for 45 minutes during your glorified old hen book club. No reason to sign up for FFC or whatever.

The city's best magnet schools are more opulent and insular than most private schools. They also rank among the state's finest educational institutions.

Wedding planning is common for what they are. I know a few, neither are old and it keeps them entertained. They like planning the big fancy party. It showcases their sophistication, trendiness, and style.

new construction home in a secluded subdivision completely unidentifiable from a suburb

The public school thing is basically his adult version of being into rap while at Duke, pretention to gain some odd street cred. I'm sure his father already has the call in to the former State's Attorney to make sure his kids get in to Payton. Public schooling dilettante style

It's a gated townhouse development like you would see in any nice suburban downtown along the train tracks. What he describes in terms of the gym actually sounds like the old Edens Athletic Club at Foster and Cicero, but it's been a Wendy's for years now. Lots of naked old guys hanging around, some interesting characters. One guy was a photographer for Life Magazine for like 40 years. They had the best racquetball scene in the entire city, but then it was sold to TCA and shuttered a couple of years later. This was maybe the late 90s.

Who said that Berns would be on the street soon? I have said that he needs a new partner & time slot.

Mentioned Lincoln Park Athletic Club is his place. I walk past it quite often getting to my buddies place on Wrightwood. Doesn't strike me as an old man hang out.

FAR FROM IT! day talent there is top notch.

Classic creature of habit move. Probably had a membership when he lived closer and never wanted to change even with 3 or 4 newer places opening up closer to him. Xsport on Elston is right by him, its nicer, its newer and midday it's about as empty as it can be.

But I dont want to get Krazy Ivan upset or anything, so I will stop.

It's more dangerous to stare at strange working out in front of you if there is a possibility of the wife or wife's friends being in the gym with you. Good move by Dan.

he attends the gym that his wifes friends probably attend and at the time they probably attend. Not sure anything there is a good move.

His wife friends would not go to X on Elston, its newer but has a bit of a gang feel in the place. Most women from the Lakeview area, going to Target is about as far west as they go and they pack a lunch for that,
