I think it's a lot of little failures more than any big one. Quenneville was too loyal to bad players at times. Toews dried up for stretches of the year as he tends to do. There were more defensive lapses than usual from everyone. Morin and Pirri didn't contribute like they needed to. The end result was a pretty good team that fell short of being an elite team but still stuck it out to one bad bounce from another Final. Whether a better regular season would have paved a better road, it's too hard to say.

As I keep saying, I'm more worried about other teams than our own. I know what our guys are capable of doing. It's the Avs, Wild, Stars, and Blues who keep getting better and better, possibly better than what we have.

Bowman loves to unload/re-tool. Listen to all offers for:

Sharp
Seabrook
Bickell (  no, really, maybe somebody would give up something for him)

I'm driving Versteeg to O'hare tonight. He's gone. Handzus is supposed to ride with us but he'll miss the ride because he'll be late to the meeting spot. I'm still overjoyed that the Haws extended Bollig for more than $1 over the minimum.

"The Bowman Plan" is still in place and it's still going to very effective for years to come. The core is in place, and they are still young and very, very good. The goaltending is good and relatively affordable. This is a rough way to end the season though.

CH should probably stop talking hockey for a while.

And he can keep right on walking. Overrated at this stage of his career, and will be 34 when the season starts. Maybe the Wild can do something with him - they still have some cap space.

You can worry about the other teams in the West all you want...but you can only control your own team.
I love Q, but why the fuck was Versteeg in the lineup tonight? Why was in he the lineup for any of the games in this series?
Why couldn't this team hold a 2 goal lead?
The Kings scored 5 more goals than the Hawks in this series.
Hawks gave up 28 goals...4 goals per game. No team can win giving up that many goals.
The Kings won more face offs than the Hawks.
The Kings scored more power play goals than the Hawks.

Crawford wasn't good enough in game 7 or this series. He had a couple of awful playoff games. Maybe he misses Goalie coach Stephan Waite?
Ryan Miller anyone?

7, 10, 32, & 52 are all available. 23 & 26 are off the team for next year.

No need to panic. This team is loaded & will be the favorite to win Lord Stanleys Cup for the next few years.

BEARSSS!!!

Gut the old, play the young. If you're going to bring in veterans keep using the Bowman rental system. There was NO sense in trading prospects for Versteeg or re-upping Handzus this offseason.

I'm expecting 23, 26, 32, and 27 to be cut in coming weeks and guys like Leddy and Seabrook potentially traded for a center to harness the glory of the Saad/Kane connection.

Some obvious thought mixed with really bad thoughts here.

Long time fan since '10.

Well I tried coming back to this board. It's always a mistake.

Stan Bowman can't be lazy again this offseason. All he did was make the team worse by trading away depth for low draft picks. Frolik was sent for 74th and 134th. Bolland was rightly dumped for the 51st, 117th and a 4th this year. He got away with replacing Frolik with Smith but replacing Bolland with 'Zus was horrible. Banking on Roszival to have another renaissance year was stupidity. Look at how the Kings have Voynov, Muzzin an Martinez all 26 and under and that's not including Doughty as he's just a freak. Our d-corps needs an infusion of youth with Seabrook, Oduya and Roszival playing like ass. Leddy's performance in the playoffs was disappointing and we might be seeing all he is. He's 23 so there still might be growth but he really hasn't taken a leap yet.

Time for Bowman to stop living off the work of Dale Tallon and get meaningful pieces through his own efforts.

Yeah Im not sure if what Leddy is now is all he's going to be. We keep waiting for this step he's going to take but a couple of scratches and benching in the playoffs makes me believe he's just not getting it. He just might only be a good skater , not really good D, decent O , 3rd line D Man. I thought he might become a solid 2nd pairing guy with good offense and he's still young but you cant let Rozival / Brookbank be better than you.

I'm not backing off on what I said all year. Bickell and Crawford are bad paper. Crow almost had me eating Crow, but his true stripes came out. I am sick of folks saying the goals aren't his fault. We had many chances to take this series starting with Game 2. Blew three leads last night.

Q can bite me. He played old and bad. His assistant coaches are a joke. This asshole sat Leddy in MN for his homecoming. Bad timing there. Thank goodness Saad emerged before he got the Morin And Pirri treatment.

That top line was invisible. I'll give Hossa and Toews a break because they usually pull their weight. Hossa held up after a long season.

Seabrook....yikes.

Well CH, I guess you were right. You worried all year that this team didn't have it. I thought they did. However, that series will awesome. Very close. Very exciting. And it ended as it should- sudden death.

Denis, Quick is generally regarded as one of the top 2 or 3 goalies in the league and he sucked just as much as people think Crawford does in this series. Who would you have play net for the Hawks? Niemi? They don't win the Blues or Wild series without Crawford, did you forget how awful the Blackhawks were in those series? He bailed them out ( or played as a goalie should play , take your pick ) . He didn't have the shutdown game they needed him to have in this series but neither did all world everything Jonathan Quick.

The Hawks gave up so many power-play goals in this series, don't forget. I can't pin all that on Crawford. He was the best penalty-killer we had through the first two series, but you can't sustain that pace. He was due to regress to the mean after, what, like a 91% kill rate or something? Don't take so many fuckin' penalties, all part of this being a lot of little failures more than one big one.

By the way, I'm awaiting an IMAX showing of the award-winning documentary 51 Seconds, a compendium of all the two-goal leads the Hawks kicked this year. Look back on such blown two-goal leads as the one against the league-second-worst Florida Panthers, the one against the Lightning where they had been held without a single shot on goal for half the game, the one against the Hurricanes where Ron Hainsey scored a goal for the first time in years, and of course the one last night where the Hawks couldn't even get out of the first period without blowing a two-goal lead.

Thats probably the most accurate assessment, was a bunch of little things they didn't do well enough to win that they've done or gotten away with in the past.

Come on CH, you know we have to give you shit. You do walk on the ledge way too much.

I think your assessment of a lot of little things is pretty good.

You are a hockey guy. You know a lot of shit about the other teams and hockey.

You are ok in my book. But I look forward to giving you more crap next year about your gloom and doom.

As uninspired and unenergetic as they played this year, they almost got it done. I'm sad they fell short and couldn't come up with a goal at the end. I think they'd beat the Rangers.

I think so too. Now we have to hear about how great the Kings are for another 2 weeks. Which one of their 20 goal scorers is your favorite? Kopitar or Carter?

No question our guys beat the Rangers. As horrible as it would be to see the Kings win two in three and outdo the Blackhawks' two in four, it would also suck to see the Rangers, this weird gaggle of old guys and Columbus Blue Jackets tossoffs coached by the oily douchebag from our Vancouver rivalry, win the Stanley Cup after trudging through the regular season and the league's clear worst division. We think the Kings suck for not turning it on until the playoffs? I don't think Rick Nash has turned it on in his life.

I am pulling for the Kings. You win 3 game 7's on the road and you deserve the cup.

Just thankful it is not the Blues or the Red Wings.

Playing in three game 7s on the road isnt a good thing. It means you couldnt close out the series when you had a chance or you fell behind early in the series. Having to play a game 7 means you fucked up along the way. Fuck the Kings and the constant blowjob they get from the media.

from Committed Indian:

So what now? A lot of it is automatic. Handzus will retire (though that won’t stop Q from playing him). Brookbank will walk. Teuvo Teravainen and Stephen Johns will be inserted immediately, which will make the Hawks deeper at forward with just that.

Did they move Johns to a power forward position? Legit question, not being snarky. Otherwise, how does adding a defenseman make you deeper at forward?

I think Johns will start the year in Rockford, by the way, but we will see him before the year is out. It'll be like Leddy's first year. Can't put a rookie defenseman straight into the fire, even at 22 with four years of college. That's if he's still going to play at defense, of course.

Q better learn to like & accept young players, because he will have no choice but to play them when the big 3 re-up their paper. This will be a good thing for the Hawks.
