I may know nothing about hockey but don't crap me, now. If you let in 28 goals in a series, some anger has to be directed at the goalie.

For me, it's not really a matter of defending him. He isn't Jacques Plante, but he doesn't have to be. The Bowmans have adopted a salary cap era philosophy that goalie isn't a key position. Look at the stiffs Scotty won with in Detroit. The way for Crawford to be a good goalie is for the high-priced skaters and stickhandlers they have assembled to do their jobs and control the puck more.

Mike Vernon and Dominik Hasek were not stiffs, and Chris Osgood is 10th all time in wins.

I don't follow hockey much, and I'm only like the third best hockey mind on the board, but the inability for the defense to control the space in front of him seemed to be a bigger problem.

He did let in some bad goals though, but so did the guy on the other side.

Maybe stiff was too strong of a word. Hasek was great but he was like 45 years old at that point or something. Vernon was pretty good. Made a several All-Star teams. But he never won a Vezina. He's not some Hall of Famer. Chris Osgood took the same kind of heat that Crawford is taking now. If Crawford plays his career with a team like this he's going to have a lot of wins too.

The point is, you can win with Crawford and they have won with Crawford. You can win with a guy who isn't as good as Crawford. I read an interview with the Bowmans where they talked about putting less emphasis on a the goaltender position and using the resources elsewhere. Crawford probably makes more right now than they would like.

Crawford lets in a goal , he sucks, should've had it. Quick lets in a goal, great play by the Hawks, bad bounce, lucky deflection.

I agree with your first point, I saw way to many guys standing in front of the net with no one around them.

Quick has about the same stats as Crawford but because he's American, our media goes nuts over him. We've gotten as bad about stroking American players as the CBC/TSN have gotten about stroking Canadians. From the way people spoke about him, for a while I thought Ryan Callahan must be one of the top ten players in the league. Then I looked him up and he's a low scorer with a poor +/-. American, though!

No shortage of dopes that would miss the tenor of your post and yet agree wholeheartedly.

That is non responsive to my point. Start another thread for Jonathan Quick defenders. Any guy who goes by Johnathon instead of John is a douchebag anyway.

Even Jay Cutler thought the "Corey Crawford Body Language" meter was over the top.

Thats pretty much it right there. Crawford won the Blues and Wild series . He wasn't as good against LA . His opponent wasn't that much if any better. Still want Niemi back? Crawford deserves a share of the blame but isn't the sole reason they lost a 7 game series. If the Blackhawks score that last deflected goal, would Quick deserve the blame for losing the series? Im going to trust that Bowman knows what he's doing when it comes to structuring a team to win a Cup. He's done it twice here with goalies who are probably in the second tier of netminders in the league. Despite that, theyve won. Im ok with that.

I should also add that Crawford still hasn't been forgiven for his 2012 season, where he had to have been one of the bottom three goalies in the league. Of course, he had a very good 2011 wherein he wrested the starting job from Turco (oops), won the Jennings and Stanley Cup last year, and had a solid season this year, but that 2012 season where he gave up a ton of goals and then gave up two shitty sudden-death goals to shitty Mikkel Boedker still looms large for a lot of people.
