Dave Grohl threatens Rock listening public with description of awful-sounding new album:

Update: Foo Fighters have revealed via a press release that the band’s upcoming new album will be out in November.

Foo Fighters‘ forthcoming album currently only boasts eight songs.
However, don’t fret — according to the band, it may also end up the longest LP the Foos has recorded.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, frontman Dave Grohl opened up about the album and what to expect.
“You’ll recognize Foo Fighters in this record but you’ll also be surprised by us,” he said. “We’re doing things that we’ve never done before. And I want to say that it’s only eight songs but I think it might be our longest record because, as I was writing these songs, I had to take a cinematic approach.”

He added: “Like, I couldn’t just write a three-and-a-half-minute long KROQ jingle and film it for the finale of an episode about the history of music in New Orleans, you know? We really had to step up what we do. The music is a progression or an evolution for sure, but it’s a Foo Fighters record.”
While he admitted there could be horns on the record, he asserted that sections of certain songs will take fans by surprise.

Dave Grohl can stop speaking for Rock and/or Music in general anytime now.

Talk about a guy who loves himself.

He and Billy Corgan should join forces for a 4 man band.

I dunno. The songs where Whigs add horns are pretty damn good.

Yeah, but the Afghan Whigs are terrific, and it's never been outside their palette to implement a horn section. Dave Grohl warning people that he might...use horns is just so...Foo Fighters, I guess. Will horns preclude the Foo Fighters from Saving Rock And Roll???

I don't necessarily dislike Foo Fighters, but they have always struck me as the alternative version of The Outfield. Everything pretty much sounds the same.

I really dig the Foo Fighters.

Am I "out of touch"?

What gives? Please tell me why were supposed to dislike them so I can fall in line.

I have enough asshole cuntswab friends so that'll be a no. Couldn't you find your way into an electrocution accident or something? that'd be a good start.

Nothing wrong with the band, but Dave Grohl is getting pretty sanctimonious and annoying.

I try to stay away from interviews involving pretty much anyone who's work I enjoy. You usually end up thinking less of the person...

I think he said a few really awesome things and then started to believe he was smarter than he actually is.

Are we sure he really said that? Maybe it was Thomas Jefferson.

I have a feeling it's going to be really good and we'll all (mostly) love it. but, the rest of the world will HATE the shit out of it.

Or, they'll turn into Pink Floyd.

That is (kind of) what happened with Nirvana. But it happened before Dave Grohl, already a professional musician in the Washington DC Fugazi-era straightedge scene I believe, was asked to join Nirvana.

Nirvana started shitty and finished shitty. One band that rhymed "what else should I say" with "everyone is gay" was quite enough, thanks.

I wish I still had it, but when I was learning Cool Edit (Adobe Audition) sophomore year of high school, I did a really sloppy cut-and-paste of "All Apologies" that went roughly

What else should I be
All apologies
What else should I say
Everyone is gay
What else should I write
Everyone is gay
What else should I be
Everyone is gay

I wish I was like you
Everyone is gay
Find my nest of salt
Everyone is gay
Everyone is gay (clumsily pitch shifted to match other lines)
Everyone is gay
Sunburn with freezer burn
Choking on gay

Nirvana is in the same rarefied air as whoever is responsible for Sugar Sugar. Nirvana is a pox on our music history.
