Dammit! I had April Rose over him in the heads up Spada guest dead pool. Another ripped in half ticket...

Gotta tell my Zim story

We got to the Cubs game, game ends and we walk out to 7-11, to get some water, it was a hot day. Decided what we wanted to do and chose to jump on the El to lake and State to the OTB. There was 3 floors of wagering. We arent sure which floor and Zim walks in and says 'lets go boys, get in". We start talking about the game and he only wants to know if we like any horses today.

We got off on floor 4, the VIP section and we are dressed in out finest T shirts and shirts, clearly says DRESS CODE. Zim just says , can you get my buddies a table!

Yes, he almost got there before us and we maybe waited 3 mins after the game to catch the L.

RIP Popeye

Seems like he was a really good guy. One of the things that make baseball great is personalities like Popeye.

Kasper read Bruce Levine's Zim story that involved horse racing as well.

Personalities are stupid, so is fun and emotion.

Thank god all those people are dying off.

Zimmer didn't care about WAR. As such, he had no value as a human being. Likewise, anyone who who feels even an iota of grief or regret regarding his death has no value as a human being.

Its amazing all of the things he was on the field as a player, coach or manager for. He really is/was the Forrest Gump of Major League Baseball.

-played for Casey Stengel
-played with Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese
-made AS team with the Cubs in 60s, was then traded which allowed Santo to come up and play 3B
-on field for every perfect game thrown at old Yankee Stadium (Larsen, Wells, Cone)
-played for only Brooklyn Dodgers WS winner
-Fisk waiving the ball fair
-Bucky Dent HR
-1st nite game at Wrigley

Players, Clubhouse, Dugout

Vin Scully sounds awesome! Amazing how easily he weaves in and out of the game and gets his stories in. How old is he?? Anyway...here is scully talking about Zim.

I miss that. Why doesn't Danny Mac do that anymore? Is it some sort of "intellectual property" of MJH?!?

Columbus, OH --- Major League Baseball legend Don Zimmer, 83, who spent 66 years as a manager, player, coach and executive, died May 4, 2014.

While managing the Chicago Cubs, he spent many nights at Sportsman's Park and Maywood Park. He was a friend of many of the drivers, owners and trainers on the Chicago harness circuit.

It was difficult to follow Vin's tales while at the same time being mesmerized by the blond sitting sideways in the aisle seat behind home plate.

I became a baseball and Cubs fan when he was the manager. My earliest memories of baseball was watching him when I was 6. It seemed like he always did something to make me laugh.

True story...last night sitting in my home office with the flat screen tv right there at my desk...I paused the DVR just to check her out! Was looking for the zoom function!!! Good word...mesmerized!

Earliest memory is seeing Bobby Murcer hit a grand slam on TV. I thought a grand slam meant it went all the way out of the [park]. My Dad kicked me down the stairs.

ESPN probably went through his box when he left to make sure there weren't any drops in there.
