Gotta tell my Zim story

We got to the Cubs game, game ends and we walk out to 7-11, to get some water, it was a hot day. Decided what we wanted to do and chose to jump on the El to lake and State to the OTB. There was 3 floors of wagering. We arent sure which floor and Zim walks in and says 'lets go boys, get in". We start talking about the game and he only wants to know if we like any horses today.

We got off on floor 4, the VIP section and we are dressed in out finest T shirts and shirts, clearly says DRESS CODE. Zim just says , can you get my buddies a table!

Yes, he almost got there before us and we maybe waited 3 mins after the game to catch the L.

Its amazing all of the things he was on the field as a player, coach or manager for. He really is/was the Forrest Gump of Major League Baseball.

Columbus, OH --- Major League Baseball legend Don Zimmer, 83, who spent 66 years as a manager, player, coach and executive, died May 4, 2014.

While managing the Chicago Cubs, he spent many nights at Sportsman's Park and Maywood Park. He was a friend of many of the drivers, owners and trainers on the Chicago harness circuit.

I became a baseball and Cubs fan when he was the manager. My earliest memories of baseball was watching him when I was 6. It seemed like he always did something to make me laugh.

Earliest memory is seeing Bobby Murcer hit a grand slam on TV. I thought a grand slam meant it went all the way out of the [park]. My Dad kicked me down the stairs.
