you had respect for John McCain before today? What is wrong with you?

If you didn't, then there is something wrong with you.

This. Disagree with his positions all you want, but the man is a hero.

his presidential run should have changed everything you thought about him.

Scoreheading. Just because something happened later on (his Presidential run) doesn't change what he did in the past. I don't agree with a lot of his politics, but the man is a hero and deserves to be treated with respect.

No doubt that is correct.

I'll just point out that the Taliban outfit in question are not a terrorist group; it's the former political party in power in Afghanistan ... and before you write your reply, do also know that the State Department does not classify the Taliban (other than one Pakistani subset) as a terrorist organization.

It wasn't just picking someone as insane as her to be his running mate After Bush smeared him he completely changed. He's become just as crazy as anyone on the far right.

Haqqauni Network, right? Isn't that that group these 5 belonged too?

As for the State Dept.....is there classification based on what they want to believe or reality? And i realize it's the ex- "government" but how much as been infiltrated? Who is calling their shots? In my eyes they could be classified as terrorist/paramilitary because they're an arm of the ISI.

Which is yours?

Look, I don't really give a damn because to think any of us peons have the first idea about what really went on, or goes on for that matter, is the definition of lunacy.

Let's mull the Bush/Cheney/Rove/Fox smear over a bit. His character, fidelity and decency was questioned in many right wing/libertarian/tea party circles because he has an adopted child of color. The original tactic of assailing him for working in the common interest for all, even if it meant working with Democrats wasn't working. It meant that the whisper campaigns had to start because, he'd you know, done things, with a colored....well you know

And because his "maverick-iness" was co-opted by a photogenic idiot (& leaving him a bitter broken shell), he's drifted so far into wanting to be loved as an elder statesman in his own party HE(?) questions prisoner exchanges...hours after he was publicly in favor of the most recent one.

But then again, change "far right" crazy with loyal Republican and we're closer to agreement.

The guys at Gitmo are not POW, they are classified as enemy combatants. They do not follow the Geneva accords so they are not POW. Actually according to the Accords they can be classified as unlawful combatants. They can basically be executed if taken on the field of combat. One of the reasons being they do not wear uniforms

Ladies and gentlemen, New Hampshire Senator, Kelly Ayotte (R):

Quote:
from a May 22nd press release:
"As part of ongoing efforts to urge the Department of Defense to do all it can to find Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl and bring him home safely, Senator Ayotte worked successfully to include a provision in the bill that presses Pakistan to fully cooperate in the search for SGT Bergdahl."

Quote:
June 2nd:
"With 29 percent of former Guantanamo detainees having reengaged or being suspected of reengaging in terrorism, the administration's decision to release these five terrorist detainees endangers U.S. national security interests. It also sets a precedent that could encourage our enemies to capture more Americans in order to gain concessions from our government."

The Republican party is all politics, no policies.

I can't believe that people are still interested in her thoughts, but she was found a way to keep the spotlight on her.

More will probably get done if Republicans control the House and Senate. Democrats won't filibuster because they know that the president can veto the bill.

This prisoner swap was all about politics by Democrats too. It just worked out poorly for them.
