For a year, maybe, when the payoff is Lebron or Andrew Luck, I get it. Otherwise, not so much.

No one said it is awesome we suck. I knew when they hired Theo that this was coming. This was a GROUND UP rebuild. You can't do that in a couple years. The first wave of prospects are coming up the next couple years. That is when you want to see your team improving.

If they still suck after the prospects start coming up, then yes, you should start to worry. But right now, who gives a fuck what this group of journeymen do in the majors.

This is always the fall back. Don't talk about how great it is that you suck this year and how much better it is then winning and then go back to something like this. Your posts clearly indicate that the Cubs are having a better season than the Sox, even though the Sox are having a better season to date.

You think it is great that the Cubs are terrible right now. You are going as far as bashing another GM for improving the team in one year and not following the same plan of not even coming close to being competitive. Don't turn off your meatball switch. Just own it.

I just hope the catcher from Indiana was worth a year of terrible baseball by your favorite team. I'm sure he is a franchise changing player and it will be worth spending a year of your life watching a team lose so they could get him.

Yeah, I think it's the result of idiots that are forced to talk about something on sports radio, as well as all the information available on the Internet. In the past nobody would have such a dumb idea. You wanted to see your team do well. Winning 80 games was better than winning 70. Which seems so simple and true, but now seemingly isn't.

I might be dead next year. I don't want to watch something terrible this year while I'm alive. And the Sox may not be great, but they aren't bad to watch. They were last year and a concerted effort was made to change that. Even if you completely accept Theo's plan and totally buy in to whatever he says, you should be able to admit that four or five seasons of brutality is a bit much to ask. Especially from a team with the resources of the Cubs.

But you've got guys like dan bernstein on the radio telling you how great it is. I won't say bernstein doesn't like sports, but he does like the analysis of sports more than the actual games. And if you're coming at it from that angle, well, what happens on the field suddenly isn't quite as important. I don't want to look at fucking spreadsheets all day and then come home and look at more spreadsheets pertaining to baseball. I just want to watch Abreu crack home runs and see the Sox win more often than not.

One of the great unspoken truths of Chicago sports is that Cubs fans claim Sox fans are obsessed with the "north side" because Cubs fans are obsessed with themselves.

Anyone who has ever spent more than 10 minutes with denizens of Wrigleyville will recognize them as one of the world's largest collections of affluent but oafish narcissists.

That may add to it, but Sox fans in general hate the Cubs. I wouldnt call it obsessed but its part of the fandom for many.

There's a reason for that though. The way the teams are covered you would think the Cubs were far more successful. It would be like if your kid was better than another kid at whatever but the teacher/coach kept playing the other one or giving her all the rewards. The mother of the kid who was inexplicably on top could afford to be all high-handed and say, "I don't know why you're obsessed with my daughter."

Hold on David Copperfield. I never said half this shit you are talking about.

Never said it is great they are terrible. I said, I don't care what they do the first few years of a rebuild. I care when the prospects start coming up.

I said Hahn is putting the carrot on the stick and you are the jackasses believing this team can contend. More power to him if it works. You're not going to win championships with guys like Eaton,Davidson and A.Garcia. Abreau was a good signing, but he is a veteran not a young rookie.

Untill the prospects come up I don't care if they lose. They sure as hell are not going to win the World Series if they picked up a bunch of place holders like the sox did last offseason (-Abreu) Cubs tried to sign Taneoka SP and I think they put in a bid for Abreu. The international market is where I want them to spend on FA at this point, not pick up some 30 yr old declining player who will handcuff the team when they are ready to contend.

I don't know if you will or not, but I'm curious as to why you think you will win championships with guys like Bryant, Baez, and Almora.

No plan is a sure thing, but you have more upside with guys like Bryant and Baez. The potential for superstars is greater in the Cubs minor league system then the Sox. You can't argue that.

Eaton, Davidson and Garcia's upsides have decreased because they all have had their problems in the majors. If you look at prospects like stock, then the market is down on them and up for Bryant and Co.

Theo can move a number of the prospects for proven major league players to fill holes in the roster. No one is going to give you much for Eaton and Co. because they have been exposed at the major league level. The ceiling is lowered and their value decreased. The Whitesox got them at a reasonable cost because of their low value.

Lastly, homegrown players are a key factor in long term success. If you have more C.Sales in your minors instead of other teams faded prospects, you would be a contender for many years.

You said losing for 3-5 years is a lot for any team to ask of its fan base. I agree with you, if we are talking about a normal fan base. There is nothing normal about Cub fans or the history of the team. The Cubs have done what R.Hahn is doing with the Sox. They have tried the Yankee way. Tried not trying, Singing stupid songs, Waving flags, Lights and night games, Famous managers and nameless ones, Priest, Prior, Wood, Dawson, Sammy, Sandberg, Harry alive, Harry dead, Santo, one-legged santo, no santo. Hey Hey, Holy Cow, Woo Woo, Ivy in the outfield.

What they havn't tried is building a farm system and winning from home grown players. So yes, It is hard to watch, but dammit I WANT A CHAMPIONSHIP!! and if they say it will take a couple years of bad teams to reach that goal, then I am going to give it to them.

BUT

If we get more of the same as the last 100 years, then armageddon is going to rain down on the north side!

What problems has Garcia had in the big leagues besides getting injured? If I had to pick a young guy on the Sox or Cubs that had the best shot of being a "superstar", Garcia is the obvious guy. He's already come up big in a playoff series while Bryant is building numbers in the low minors and Baez is striking out more than Dunn in AA and AAA. Almora has a long, long way to go to do anything close to what Eaton is doing right now. It's like you're just swallowing some propaganda rather than watching what's really happening. The emperor has no clothes.
