Are you really trying to say that there aren't far more deniers on the right?
No, that's not what you said you said

One side believes in evolution. The other side wants creationism taught in science class.

Obviously, I was speaking in generalities. I didn't mean 100% across the board.

Quote:
A 2012 Gallup poll found that “58 percent of Republicans believe that God created humans in their present form within the last 10,000 years,” compared with 41 percent of Democrats.

Chus wrote:
What's your point?

My point, quite obviously, is that your statement that I just reposted is false and misleading.

I'm still not sure what is going on here.

Quote:
After the 04 election Democrats were obstructing too. But let's pretend it was invented in 2008

And the fact that you think either party "works with party in power" as opposed to doing whatever is best for their party is laughable. All of them are out to get re elected and acquire more power. That is it.

Chus wrote:
I said the obstruction is much worse now than I have ever seen, and it's true. The R's had the House and Senate for the first six years of W's presidency, so I don't see how the D's have been as bad as this current brand of R's. Does not compute.

Again, that is not what you said

One side works with the other when they are not in power. The other has stated their goal is to never work with the president.

Is this a joke?

Why the HUGE generalizations that you admit are not true?

Until Obama took office, I had never heard anybody in the House or Senate openly admit that they want the president to fail, and that they wouldn't work with him. I'm not saying it never happened, but I haven't heard it. Like the Bergdahl situation. People like McCain and Ayotte have switched their position on a prisoner swap 180 degrees, or 360 in Jason Kidd's world, just because the President did it.

Professing great disdain for the embarrassment known as this current Republican party is not the same as "towing the line" for the Democrats. They are weak, spineless, and ineffective, but I see them as the slightly lesser of two evils. Perhaps you could list some examples of me towing the line.

Well we apparently disagree on what you say and what you mean by what you say because I would say the 4 points you posted were straight Dem talking points.
"No, he was saying it was foul, but I was saying it was fair. He said foul, I said fair. Then he said fair, and I said foul. It was foul, I mean fair, but he was saying foul. I said foul, no, wait, fair...I dunno..."

Chus your original 4 differences cane off as huge generalizations to me. I dont think you can even apply them to "most"

Aside from that I have zero faith left in either party So with that fundamental difference it'll be hard for you and I to see eye to eye on a lot of political stuff.

It would be pretty boring if everybody agreed with everybody else about everything.

We're going to have to disagree as to what constitutes "huge" generalizations. The four he cited are de facto planks in the tea party/republican/conservative platform.

One side believes in global warming. The other thinks it is a hoax, and scientists are lying.
One side encourages voting. The other goes out of its way to suppress minority voters.
One side believes in evolution. The other side wants creationism taught in science class.
One side works with the other when they are not in power. The other has stated their goal is to never work with the president.

In many/most republican primaries (and almost in all that are solidly red jurisdictions), the purity tests are run on these four "issues".

I'll even include a fifth. In the last round of national elections, many republican candidates came out against abortion even in cases of rape/incest or where the mother's own health was at issue. When the wing nut faction of the republican/tea party has seized as much control as they have (especially in southern and/or rural areas), these five assertions aren't generalizations as they are unfortunate fact.

Btw, quit hiding behind the trusty "I have zero faith left in either party" rhetoric. The lines and motives may be blurry in many areas, but crystal clear in many/most others. Own them.

Two and four are demonstrably false. The third is a phony argument that creates a contradiction between evolution and creationisn that does not even exist.

Asking someone to provide an ID before they vote means someone is trying to suppress my vote in Dupage County.

After the Iraq war vote, there was little working together on Capitol Hill.

And I'll say it again, there is nothing contradictory between creationism and evolution.

Medicare Part D came after the Iraq vote didn't it. IIRC Ted Kennedy was willing to work with W Bush after they made a deal on No Child Left Behind. Immigration reform was going to get done until Bush's party killed it and his influence. If your own party won't go along with you how can you expect the opposition to do it? That being said none of this has anything to do with thugs murdering cops and other innocent people.

Number Two has been done in many states through their use of activist judges and hard right governing bodies. Show me a state with a republican dominated govt. and I'll show you case after case filed by republican state attorney generals seeking to restrict motor voting laws, restrict early voting periods (both of which heavily favor poor and working class voters, especially of color) and bringing specious claims of voter fraud that effectively put undue burdens on many to vote (the poor, many married women and typically people of color). They've even claimed through crocodile tears that the Voting Rights Act places undue burdens on states where race (and limiting minority votes) clearly was and is a factor in elections.

It's only because activist judges/justices like Scalia, Roberts, and Alito lied (in a gentlemanly fashion) under oath and sailed through their bipartisan confirmation hearings, that these ridiculous voting actions have been allowed to assault the voting process. "Original intent" bs aside...

We have a two party system in this country. Other than Perot, no third party candidate has mattered in a long time. Voting for a third party is just a waste, IMO. The R's have taken such a sharp turn to the right, that I can't vote for any of them, so I usually go the other way.

It's no secret that I am more liberal than conservative, but I don't vote straight ticket Democrat. I voted for Nader in 2000. I didn't vote for Quinn or Blago. I left those blank.

I'm not making the claim. And I'm open to being educated. So please refer me to where I can find these cases in IN and WI. Because those are the only two Republican states that I'm aware of.

God it's funny as hell watching you wingnuts try to twist the conversation in circles when present with facts that destroy your precious make believe world.

For the record. Adam Lanza's family, registered Republicans. Colorado shooter had never voted. That took 2 seconds on Google. You should fucking try it sometime BRick.

So when was the last time that you voted for a Republican?

They are kind of hard to avoid in these parts.

Bullshit

You are a straight team member of the democrats. Don't tell me I'm hiding. I see things as they are instead of thru the lens of "my team" as you do. That's why I'm able to see faults in Obama as I did with Bush, Clinton, and bush

You on the other hand go out of your way to defend the current POTUS, which is bullshit. He's a failure and its not the big bad gop's fault. Its his own fault for writing checks that could obviously never be cashed

I already disproved those assertions being most. You can't have 41% of a group of people believe in creationism and then pretend you're the science party.

And the global warming thing is also untrue. There are deniers in both sides

Actually the parties are the same and have been for a while now. I'm sure that sucks for people who fought for these parties in better times but it remains the truth

The two parties have used a few hot topics to differentiate from one another (abortion, cap punishment etc) but when they make most of the decisions they have themselves and their scumbag Washington friends in mind and that is most definitely both sides.

If you or anyone on either side wants to pretend these politicians are thinking of the people they reoresent that's unfortunate because its just not true.

For an example see ANY Illinois politics in the last 50 years and then tell me Republicans are the only bad guys

As with Chus, I respect you guys but can't believe you're still believing in the righteousness of your party. Might as well believe in the Easter Bunny IMO

But really, I'm not hiding. I truly believe these things and express my political beliefs on a case by case basis (AKA the way it should be) instead of picking a team and arguing for them like a local sports team

I don't hate democrats. I think most politicians from all sides start off with good intention but get eaten up by the machine.

If they actually repd their people like they say, I'd be on the dems side. But they don't

I'm a liberal in most cases but no party truly represents that viewpoint

There are mass shootings on a weekly basis in Chicago, my guess is a handful are not right wing conservatives.
