Good thing they got that high draft pick.

$1.5M they can put towards the other draft picks that supposedly would not sign. The bad record isn't so much about the actual draft position, it's more about the amount of money you get to spend in the draft. They can lock up a few top HS arms with that money that they wouldn't have been able to draft and sign otherwise.

It's money they'll use to sign Sands, Steele and Cease.

Right, if you can get any of those guys, it makes it very worth it. Schwarber + 1 or 2 of those guys is better than the other bats that were available at 4.

They should sign all three or they wouldn't have drafted them in the top 10 rounds. Cease is the most interesting of the three. He has a great arm (up to 97 this spring) but hasn't pitched in a couple months and will probably require TJ surgery. I'm curious to see what he signs for.

So let me get this straight, Cubs fans are cheering signing someone well above his draft position, taken with a pick obtained through tanking an entire season because it comes with the ability to also sign a guy in need of Tommy John surgery.

Put a pretty blue dress on me because I feel like Alice in Wonderland.

I believe Cubs fans are cheering the signing of a slugger destroying A+ with a line of:
.314/.417/.613. with 10 HRs in 39 games

As a frame of reference, Kris Bryant in 16 games at Daytona hit:
.333/.387/.719 with 5 HRs

So, this is why Kenny liked drafting football players.

Looks like he will start next year in AA with Almora, McKinney and Vogelbach. He scuffled a bit there for a few weeks, but he kept taking walks. Signs of a confident hitter. Has hit 6 HR's in the last 5 games.

How many awesome prospects do the Cubs have?

Gordon Beckham killed it in the minors too.

Off the top of my head, I'd say at least 4, not counting Baez.

Good point, I hope the Cubs minor league prospects start playing poorly so they avoid fooling us like Gordon Beckham.

Beckham played well in the VERY brief time he was in the minors. The Sox rushed him along, as they do with many of their top picks to get him to the bigs.

But if Beckham "killed it" in the minors then Schwarber is going full on "scorched Earth" so far.

I'm pretty sure I recall Sox fans thinking Beckham was an awesome prospect when they were predicting multiple MVPs for the guy.

Ya, true. When the Cubs tank last year and then reached for a chunky catcher who played at a cold weather college you get nervous.

But so far so good.

Bryant #3 overall.
Baez is #5 overall, but doesn't really count now that he is in the majors.
Russell #6 overall.
Almora is #39 overall.
Soler is #51 overall.
CJ Edwards is #56 overall.
Schwarber is #75 overall.

The Brick troll can decide where the breakdown of awesome begins and ends.

Looks like you currently hold the crown.

If denisdman weren't so afraid, he may be able to take it.
