Well there is that, but:

1. He wasn't a complete and amoral crook like Nixon.
2. Ford was just a caretaker, who pardoned Nixon (& set the tone for "Too Big To Fail")
3. Carter was ineffectual, in large part because he attempted to govern in the same way he did
in his 70's era backward southern state.
4. Reagan laid the groundwork and helped contribute to all of the fiscal problems this country is
suffering from. He additionally ignored (& contributed to the turmoil in) the problems in the
Middle East. And he accelerated the destruction of the American middle class. Has to be in
the bottom five of all time imho.
5. GHWBush....was a try hard old line R guy, but got nothing done and begat GW Bush.
6. Clinton. Sold out American workers by pandering to the Reagan Democrats. Through his
policies he accelerated what Reagan started. History will show him to be little more than the
monkey driving the train during the economic "boom" of the 90's and otherwise completely self
centered.
7. GW Bush. Massive terrorist attacks on his watch he may have ignored. Two ineffectual and one
completely immoral war he initiated under the cloak of "defending our freedoms". Helped grease
the skids toward federal bankruptcy through his sadistic financial policies. Horrid SCt justices.
Dick Cheney and his still secret energy policies drafted in large part by Enron. He hates
our troops.

I could go on and on, but only if you're a tea partier or of the financial 1% was the "Mission
Accomplished".

I know saving the auto industry and possibly the American economy as we know it has it's detractors, but it's a thing. Hell so is starting to clean up the mess the compassionate conservatives wrought. Or getting us the hell out of Middle Eastern quagmires. Or not going to pointless (from our perspective) wars. I'd even offer that Americans aren't seen quite as ugly on the world stage. The ACA. Helping show the ugly, bigoted and plain truths about most "Americuhn Patriots" (& most current republicans) that still plague us all. History has to burden republicans with the govt shutdowns and other inertia...because their chief goal was to make him just "a one term president"

If you think Republicans are evil and democrats are righteous, I can see why you would think these things.

Im just not sure which is the funnier line, that he "possibly saved the economy" (not remotely possible) or that he has gotten us OUT of Middle Eastern Quagmires. (Afghan war still going on 6 years into his terms and just yesterday he said he couldnt rule out going BACK to Iraq)

Anyway, thanks for the thorough response. I believe I was right when I deemed you a fan of Obama.

The funny thing is that I didn't give any (false) credit for "saving the banking system", nor did I tout the killing of Bin Laden as reasons that Obama is the best POTUS since LBJ. Come on Big, your slip is showing on this one. :D

Funny thing is that I grew up with Chuck Percy, Nelson Rockefeller and a cast of thousands of republicans you/we all could respect. It wasn't until Reagan effectively kicked off his presidential campaign in murderous & lynch mob filled Philadelphia, MS and talking about states rights that I began to lose respect for many/now most Republicans

I've never believed Democrats to be righteous either. Hell the only mayors I had into my teenaged years were Richard J. Daley, Jane Byrne and Michael Bilandic. And I/we suffered & will suffer for the theft & fraud of Richie M. Blago, Dan Walker and Stroger that didn't help either.

Regarding the economy, we'll have to gentlemanly agree to disagree. We're looking at it from two different perspectives and I can respect our differences.

As for going back into Iraq, if he does that, he'll ruin any hope he has of a decent legacy with me. We haven't had clean hands in that part of the world since we allowed the arrogant Skull & Bones Yalies to screw up and prop up the Shah of Iran, and compound it ever since.

I've never been the POTUS' biggest fan (as alluded to elsewhere, I was ready to vote for Hillary until her campaign imploded), but I've been willing to give him a generous benefit of the doubt given the active traitors & seditious players he's been dealing with in this country's R leaders.

Groundwork? The fiscal profligacy under Reagan was just an endpoint of the actions taken under LBJ and Nixon. That is, in part, the unmooring of the dollar from any sort of gold standard, the further empowerment and politicization of the Federal Reserve and turning the Social Security trust fund into a general fund, among other things. The actual groundwork of which you speak of really started to take shape after Eisenhower.

Its great to have ideas, like Obama, but you need to have a plan to use them.

Not going to say I love all of Obamas social ideas, but overall I would say he tried to do some very good things. better than any president in my lifetime.

As for his economic views and ability to get things done, it's a D.

I think if he bent on some financial issues, he would have been able to get much more done for many more people during his tenure and this was his fault as president.

Unfortunately, I honestly believe that unless he wholeheartedly endorsed Paul Ryan's plan, nothing more substantive could have been done. It's been obstruction for the sake of obstruction, oddly enough chiefly promoted by the congressional members from the country's true welfare queen states (i.e. the south)

You could start by at least properly attributing the quote and the context in which it was said.

And if you would rather not acknowledge what took place under Presidents during the 60's-early 70's in regards to fiscal matters and would rather blame everything on Reagan, that's fine. Just make sure not to speak to me about "owning" anything.

We've had this debate before, but it should also be put out there that Obama put the Republicans in a position where they almost had to be obstructionist. They didn't have to at this level but they certainly weren't going to simply let Obama run over them with the same rhetoric that got him into office.

At least in my lifetime, I don't think there was ever such a focus on "The last guy was terrible and I'm going to fix everything that the other party messed up". It worked great for the election but it wasn't going to win favor with Republicans.

It's Friday, RR, turn down the hate dial and turn up the love dial.
