I hated Ozzie Guillen even as he was winning a world series. The organization always tried to paint him as beloved but most Sox fans remembered when he left Chicago the first time.

Joey Belle is another example much more analogous to James. That guy was unlikable before, during and after he got here. He put up a record setting half a season for the team and I cheered it on.

Cubs fans are trained seals who clap whether you pull our a fresh fish or a rotten one so, similarly to all other circumstances, they don't count in this discussion.

I'm saying we should pretty much ignore it. His "business" is pretty much just profiting off of his likeness right now. That means he is as good of a businessman as Kate Upton.

At least people like Magic and Jay-Z have actual smart business decisions you can point to. Lebron agreed to wear headphones.

Why is that so bad? I think it sucks that they conspired to join the Heat but if he and Bosh came to the Bulls to be with D Rose I wouldn't have objected one bit. I honestly have no problem with athletes taking a bit more control of their career trajectory. My main issue with the "Big 3" crap was the pomposity surrounding it all with "the Decision" and the celebration for winning the free agency period. But I generally think athletes should be more in control of where they go and why.

This is a weird thing to say about your best friend, let alone a world-famous athlete you've never met.

I hope we are all continuing to grow. I would like to believe that I am a better man and father at 32 than I was at 29.

Well, doesn't that render your point moot? If we all grow forever, then the fact that he is 29 and still growing is irrelevant.

Well I think we can ALL agree little Danny stopped growing physically and emotionally in the 8th grade.

I don't think we can dismiss it when we see athletes make poor business decisions all the time. He's chosen to take advice from the Warren Buffett's of the world instead of his uncle that has a great idea.

Isn't the Cubs plan to splurge on big name free agents once they feel they're ready to contend?

I believe so, but the core guys will be home grown. It'll be easy to cheer for Kris Bryant.

I've always thought it looked undignified for the best player in the world to have to go to someone else's team to win rather than other player's coming to him. It's a subtle difference.

Remember that in the first year the Heat were still considered Wade's team.

He's gotten rid of all the pregame antics and he appears to have better awareness when it comes to the things he says. He has also taken on the role of mentor for many young players in the league.

That's fine, but don't complain when people start discounting championships and accomplishments. If this becomes the norm, I will personally assign more weight to championship teams that were built instead of championship teams that were manufactured through a bunch of guys who wanted to play together. I'm sure many others will also. It's cowardly, IMO.

Sox fans are absolutely more suggestive. They will cheer for anything not wearing Red and Blue.

We were looking at Sun Times top 50 players from both teams. Belle didnt make the top 50.

I don't know what is in his portfolio but by all accounts he is on his way to becoming a billionaire. I'm sure he has an interest in the agency his friend runs and the advice Buffett and others have given him has been helpful. Knowing to surround yourself with is an important step to becoming successful. He understood that early.

Of course he is on his way to being a billionaire. He gets $60 million a year.

The bottom line is that there is no reason to even mention how good of a businessman he is. He may prove to be the next Steve Jobs after his career but right now he's basically just a guy who plays basketball and then gets paid for being filmed.

After Game 1, he said he was the "easiest target in sports." Dude's a bitch, plain and simple.

It's hilarious to me how fast these two have broken bad on the Heat. Not long ago, we got the snickering "The Heat are trying now," implying ain't no way they can be beaten. Now, it's LeBron plus a bunch of bums. How easily they jump off the Miami bandwagon.

I didn't like what he did and how he did it but it has worked. He has gone to the Finals 4 years in a row and won 2 titles as the best player.

Dan (and Terry for that matter) have absolutely no self awareness when they talk speak/write about the intracacies of the business world, unless being the husband of SQN presents a person with deep insights

Huh? The people he surrounded himself with were the ones who encouraged him to go through with "The Decision." I think it has been pretty much agreed upon that he has surrounded himself with morons.

Again, the best basketball player in the world should make millions of dollars. There is no actual proof that he is a good businessman, and even if he was, I don't know what it has to do with liking him as a player.

believe the exact words were "they flipped the switch"

You will find that I quoted them in the somewhat defunct "Dan and Terry Predictions" thread

You would be surprised at the modest intellectual abilities of the titans of industry. There is something more to business success.

I don't get how it reflects negatively on the player. Players don't typically put teams together or earn their way onto teams, GM's put teams together. Should Lebron have stayed on the Cavs forever waiting for the GM to find real players and a real coach to put next to him? Sometimes guys get stuck on bad franchises with bad front offices and no amount of loyalty or talent can cancel that out. Why does it make a player look bad to sacrifice money to go somewhere and win a title? To me, the cowardly thing to do would be to take more money to be the solo star of a crappy franchise; he would have remained a big fish in a small pond and could blame everyone around him for their lack of titles.

Absolutely. The more you deal with those who truly made their own success or worked their way to the top of industry, the more you realize it has little to do with intelligence. IMO, it has a LOT to do with a lack of concern of what others think of you.

He joined with the two best players available who were both on hall of fame trajectories and at least one of them still is. Bosh still probably is a hall of famer too.

He chose the easiest path to a title and it worked. Congratulations on that.
