The only trade in that entire list I would say was unequivocally good for the Cubs is Feldman for Arrieta and Strop. They got a bunch of players in the Garza deal and that will probably turn out well or maybe even better than that for them.

This his the best trade by far. Most of the others are indeterminate at this point.

The one trade that had me wavering on my undefeated declaration was Tony Campana to AZ. I still can't believe why he isn't a Cub anymore!!!!

Marshall for Wood is one of my favorites. Didn't like it at the time, but turned out to be a great one.

It wouldn't surprise me if every other MLB GM gets together and decides that trading with Theo is a big mistake and should be avoided at all costs.

I don't know what that question even means.

Are you asking if you don't understand something? I'll go with yes.

I agree. Its not every day you can acquire a talent like Geo Soto and only give up a guy like Jake Brigham.

NO. He got rid of the heart and soul of the team. Steven Scott Clevenger.

Cashner for Rizzo looks pretty even.

Cashner is greatly aided by Petco. His home/road split is no good.

Also his Healthy/DL split is terrible

The Rizzo trade is a winner

The best one is Travis Wood who was gotten for one year of Sean Marshall

Since the trade Cashner has made 43 starts in 3 years to the tune of a 15-19 record. A decent 3.08 era but in Petco

a couple of good trades....and some were addition by subtraction (i.e Marmol). Most were "our" crap for "your" crap.

which is at least commensurate with Rizzo's production over that time...at best, this is a tie

dude's done a decent job IMO. picks up random pitchers and they turn out great. not sure what the hell he was thinking with EJax though.

Rizzo'll have a career WAR 5x that of cashner.

A part time losing pitcher is as good as a Left handed power hitting first baseman. I disagree.

And WAR agrees with me.

No, but its happened in the past.

Quintana and Travis Wood were essentially another team's junk that the Sox and Cubs took a chance on. Sox got some good out of Humber. It even goes as far back as Contreras, Gavin Floyd, Carlos Quinten. My point always is that this happens across MLB, its not exclusive to the Sox as much as some Cubs fans would like you to believe.

Cub fans are saying what? That the White Sox are the only one's to sign #5 pitchers?

Nothing to really complain about with the trading record. The draft has been okay. It's his big time free agent signing record that has always been his downfall.

Maybe that is why he is trying to avoid paying big money in free agency --- he knows he will choke.

Its not like he's been terrible in free agency. There have been as many good moves as bad ones.

When you shell out big bucks, 50% isn't good enough.

Agree. But its certainly not bad enough to be gun shy.

Where does Lackey fall? Bad? Or Barry Zito for the Giants? Does a WS cure all?

Two of them does, and one certainly helps.

For the Cubs, I would say that even a World Series appearance would go quite a long way.

It's an interesting question I think. And one I cant speak to as a Cub fan.

But I think if the Cubs would have won in 07 or 08 no one would care about Soriano's bloated deal.

Zito's deal was AWFUL for years and then he got hot and was a big part of a WS win.

Similar with Lackey and Red Sox
