Tim Burton's Batman was released. Ushering in the Modern SuperHero Movie. Good but not great movie. Looking back best part for me was Keaton.
I know it is heresy but Jack was okay not the best Batman villain on film. For me it is Scarecrow in Dark Knight,Cillian Murphy is one of my fav new actors. Dude can put a huge scare in you with a look,don't believe me,go watch Red Eye. It still is best of the first batch of films until Ironman. Blows even the Toby Spidermans and Fantastic Four movies.

I think it is funny that Affleck is getting almost as much flack from the fan boys as Keaton,I got faith that he can pull it off. Remember he is not playing the young Batman but more of the Dark Knight we see in the later comics and books.

On other Hero news I am wondering what version of the Defenders they are going to use on Netfilx,only two so far announced is Daredevil and Luke Cage.

Michael Keaten's career went to hell the day he refused to do Batman III. What the hell was he thinking? I'm too cool to do batman again? For what? Cuz you wanted to do Jack Frost?

I really liked mr mom and Johnny dangerously. I haven't seen them in awhile and wonder if they'd hold up.

I think they did change producers but I'm pretty sure they still wanted Keaton and he refused. I'll google it to make sure.

Keaton wanted to do it but refused cuz he didn't like the script and where the new producer/director was taking the franchise.

it's funny that this movie's release is being used as some kind of milestone for super hero movies. It actually did nothing for the genre. Hollywood still didn't have a lot of faith in making comic book movies, and no one seems to want to mention that the 1990 "Captain America" movie only came out a year later...and the TMNT films didn't translate into making comic book movies a money making machine. "Batman" wound up killing the super hero genre in the late 90's...if anything, Sam Raimi is the one who should get the credit for turning Marvel into the Franklin Mint in Hollywood.

"Batman" was a hugely flawed movie but it's still visually stunning and will always remain a huge part of my childhood. I still remember trying to get in on premiere night and seeing every showing sold out...but loading up on Batman cards and candy that night. I wound up going to see it 3 times in the theatre, but mostly being bored by a lot of it. I grew to appreciate it more as I got older.

I love the "where did you learn to steal cars" callback to that movie in The Winter Soldier.

I like the scene where Batman took Vicki Vale to the Batcave for the first time.

Danny Elfman's musical score was very good.

The opening with the 2 muggers on the roof is classic. The cinematography and the design of the city Gotham was fantastic. I always liked Michael Keaton but he was no Adam West! Michaels latest movie is playing a washed up actor who used to play a popular superhero in "Birdman".

I think Jack took home around $60-75m for his role as Joker due to his choice to take a percentage (when no one predicted the movie would be such a hit and stay in theaters for 5+ months).

Actually Zach I disagree. The main differences tween Batman and the Capt America movies was the Capt movie was aimed at kids and still very much camp. Burtons Batman was aimed at an adult audience. It attracted real actors and looked like a real movie instead of Sat morning fare.

Still a great actor. Made a movie called "Game 6" which was pretty solid

I liked Game 6 a lot. My favorite role for him was Daryl Poynter in Clean and Sober. His depiction of an addict was spot on!

My favorite of his roles is Gung Ho though. Such an underrated comedy.

I was reading a story about 80s films and this one threw me. The original ending of Pretty in Pink had Claire(Molly) end up with Duckie.Supposedly the test audiences hated it. I would love to see that ending

The main difference is that "Batman" had a huge budget and CA had nothing because there was no confidence behind it. Hollywood execs don't aim a picture like that at "adults". That would be a huge miscalculation on their part. The demographic was teenagers, and older kids.

Like I said, Hollywood didn't take comic book movies seriously as a subgenre until the success of "Spider-man".

Actually, credit for that goes to the first X-Men movie, which came out 2 years before.

that can be argued. it may have given marvel a boost in order to get "spider-man" into pole position but "spider-man" became the highest grossing super hero movie in its first weekend and was the first film ever to make over $100 million in a weekend. "x-men" was a legit movie but it was not a box office sensation that "spider-man" was. and from then on, marvel started to dominate into the next decade where now it can shit out anything it wants and it'll make money.

Sorry Chas, but the original Batman holds up very well and I think you can put both Nicholson's Joker and Ledger's Joker on the same plateau. Keaton's Batman was better than Bale's Batman, but not by much.

I will agree that I really enjoy Murphy's Scarecrow. I think they needed to do more with his role than they did, but I love the fact he essentially survived as the villain throughout the entire trilogy.

I agree I just think that because Jack was the first big name to do the villain stuff he gets top billing because he is who he is. Ledger was good as well. Each Joker was the reflection of the universe that existed for that Batman. My favorite Joker is Mark Hammel though.

I think I am going to have to go back and watch the first couple of seasons of both Batman Animated and Batman:Beyond.
The animated movies Mask of the Phantasm and Joker returns are greats films as well. I just wish the Justice League cartoons had a longer run.Hysterical what they did to Superman to show why he needed to work with others.
