If they use their picks tonight, they've basically took themselves out of the Love sweepstakes, right? You can see which way I lean when it comes to the question of them taking the conventional route tonight or doing something bold, like fellow executive Daryl Morey. Morey has already out maneuvered them in clearing space and picking up a semi sweet (only protected 1-3) pick in the process.

You have two picks to do something bold, not to draft the future Jimmy Butler and Mike Dunleavy.

Mike Dunlevey was drafted #3 overall.

Has he validated being picked in that slot?

It would not take them out of the running for anything. Obviously it makes more sense to trade the picks before the draft.

Either you deal picks or you draft for someone else and deal those players. If you draft for yourself then you're basically locked in. I'm all for depth but I was hoping for some increased star power. Yes the Spurs won with depth and all, but there is no Leonard or even Diaw here.

If they can't get any deals for the picks, I'd imagine that they draft two overseas kids that will continue to play over there for a few years, thus they don't have to pay them and just own their rights.

Which is why they should draft one tonight.

Is there one on the board? For the Spurs post-Duncan as superstar model you need to hit on almost all of your acquisitions. Simply put it's just easier to climb up the standings on the shoulders of star players. If Leanard is there, fine, but there's no guarantee obviously when you're picking in the teens.

Might as well just draft Kenny Wililams, Jr. again.

This is a very deep draft.

There most likely is and neither of those guys were Leonard or Diaw at the time they were drafted.

Is there any other league where if you are not a lottery pick you have very little chance of being squat? Or nearly zero chance of making it as a second rounder?

I think they should build through the draft and maybe sign some foreign players.

I'm hoping they use one of the picks on Shabazz Napier.

Not refuting you but I meant there is no Leonard or depth guy like Diaw on the Bulls currently. If you strike gold in the teens, fine, but if you just get useful depth then look forward to another fifty wins and second round exit.

That's not a league thing but a nature of the sport thing. It's much easier to be a walk on starter in football than it is in the NBA.

It's not even necessarily true. Bill Simmons recent column does a decent job of debunking it.

I'm still trying to see what's up with his estranged sister. She's a bartender in her spare time.

Jonny Flynn became an iconic bust; and the immortal David Kahn took consecutive point guards at no. 5 and no. 6 while passing on Curry both times. Did he claim that Rubio and Flynn were the next Frazier and Monroe? Of course he did!

I found this interesting:

Superduperstars: Duncan (1), LeBron (1), Kobe (13)
All-Timers: Iverson (1), Howard (1), Durant (2), Garnett (5), Wade (5), Nowitzki (9), Nash (15)
Franchise Guys: Griffin (1), A. Davis (1), D. Rose (1), Carmelo (3), C. Paul (4), Westbrook (4), Harden (3), R. Allen (5), Love (5), Curry (7), McGrady (9), P. George (10), Pierce (10)

23 stars as he defines them. 17 chosen in top 5. Only 2 picked lower than 10? Crazy.

Future consolation acquisition Arron Afflalo traded to Denver. So who will we get this year?

So we are douchebagging them before anything has really happened yet?

Makes sense.

Doesn't fit the GarPax prototype. I'm thinking Elton Brand. He fits the criteria: hard working, previous winning experiences, and most importantly he was relevant in a different decade.

Yes. Preemptively. No confidence at all that we end up with something other than two mid round prospects for a team desperately in need of some serious scoring punch.
