How can Bernstein claim that the Bulls were not trying to tank last season after Derrick Rose was injured? Anyone hear this on yesterday's show? The caller said, correctly, that if the Bulls were trying to win, they would have kept Luol Deng, and Bernstein said it was an opportunity to free up some cap space and get under the tax, etc. He pointed to DJ Augustine as proof that the Bulls management was attempting to compete, but that was a waiver wire pickup, and I recall Bernstein ridiculing that pickup at the time.

I think Bernstein has some revisionist history here. Yes, the players competed, but almost everyone thought that the trade of Deng and loss of Rose would result in this team being in the lottery, not ending up with the #4 seed.

I thought the trade was fine and made sense, but Bernstein's argument is pretty ridiculous. They tried to tank.
