I used to love Simmon's NBA articles, but watching last night, I felt like Rose wants to choke him and has little respect for him. Simmons just makes dumb jokes, and he's not really that funny. Everything seemed tense to me because of the Rose/Simmons dynamic.

I'm getting a chuckle out of the Simmons-Bernstein feud. If you asked BS about Bernstein's comments he would probably respond, "Who the fuck is Dan Bernstein?"

Dan Bernstein is a completely unknown to anyone outside the Chicago metro area.

Knock Bill Simmons for being annoying and cocky but he started off as a blogger and his career has skyrocketed. Danny Boy has coasted for more than a decade. He's doing the same lame crap year after year. His career has plateaued and going nowhere.

Bernstein actually dismissed the notion that anti-semitism was the basis of the Reinsdorf is cheap beliefs. In part because so many other owners would fall under the same umbrella but don't receive similar criticism.

The other thing that makes this weird is that conversely, Dan is alleging not to know who Bill Simmons even is, having to be told that Simmons is the editor of a website he visits often and reads to us from on occasion. I find it very hard to believe that any sports pundit who has been active through the 21st century could be unfamiliar with the guy who, for better or worse, blew the lid off sportswriting and introduced new levels of stream-of-consciousness, fan interaction, pop culture, and sheer word count. Dan said something like "Is that his bit? to be a homer on TV?!?" Well, no shit that's his bit, and it always has been, so why's he gonna stop now? I mean, I can't stand his writing anymore either, but I get the whole thing, and for Dan and Deadspin to groan over his shameless homer act while at the same time groaning over the old white men who still live by "tut-tut, there's to be no cheering in the press box" is contradictory and stupid. And speaking of Deadspin, if I didn't know better, I would suspect that Dan doesn't really give a fuck about Bill Simmons -- or might actually like Bill Simmons if he gave him a chance, since fawning over Malcolm Gladwell and going on about random shit no one cares about sounds like your average Boers & Bernstein show, too -- and is just complaining about him because Tim Marchman or whoever else there does.

Bernstein and Simmons are essentially the same guy. One uses smarmy pseudo-intellectualism, one uses smarmy faux-populism. Both are purveyors of casual racism and misogyny, both think that sports are a laboratory for neoliberalism, and both spend most of their time making turgid, self-aggrandizing pronouncements to mask the fact that they don't actually know jack shit about sports.
