You don't get that?

I get that. I have said that now like 3 times.

I do not get how that connects with the fact that he has not played in awhile.

That is what I do not get.

The fact he has not been able to play for basically two years and is still this stubborn is remarkable.

He should be Jack Haley-level bench cheerleader at this point.
He should be doing everything he can, as a $100M+ man - to make his team better. Because he hasn't really done much else.

So if he had been playing at a high level the last 2 years you would be ok with him not recruiting someone?

It just adds to it. His health has likely been the reason why the Bulls haven't won a title in the past 3 years. Because of that he should be willing to do whatever it takes but he chooses to be selfish.

He should want his team to be better regardless.

He's has literally done next-to-nothing for 3 years. And now he steps out and says "I'm not gonna help the cause".
Bad form.

"THE" reason?

Disagree. LeBron running the league at his whim is the main reason.

I know the Bulls had more than enough to beat the Heat in 2012. His knee injury was huge.

No. Especially if he wasn't good enough to lead the Bulls to a championship.

Agree.
If J. Toews says he doesn't want to recruit somebody to play for the Hawks, not sure we could disagree with him.

To call this bad form is being way too kind. It is unconscionable that a professional athlete & teammate would actually publicly announce that he doesn't want to help his team improve themselves. The humble gentleman that Rose is portrayed to be is a myth.

It is his job though. If he is the team leader then he certainly should be expected to represent the team in dealings with other players. The whole league is built to do this exact thing.

I don't think anyone is asking any player to beg. They just want the most important player to be involved with getting another important player.

Also, it should be pointed out that comments were made by his people about how there needs to be more talent on the team. He then can't go and say "it isn't my job" when others are certainly making it their job to improve the talent.

I don't know of any star player or team leader that refused to recruit a player who could help him win. It just seems odd. I could understand saying "I won't run to another team to get a ring" but you have to do whatever it takes to get your current team a ring. Reaching out to another star player may be what it takes. If I were Melo it wouldn't change my decision but it is something that I wouldn't like. If I were in the Bulls front office I would hate everything he said. Especially his talk about his knees. It sounds like he is trying to sabotage the team chances of landing Melo or another star by making those comments on the eve of free agency.

What do you think he said wrong about his knees? I read that and I think he's better than ever. I'm sure that's complete bullshit though. I remember his last injury when his vertical supposedly increased after knee surgery. We certainly didn't see that in the 10 games he played.

His quote about playing in Olympics camp in Chicago. I believe he said he was unsure if he would play (Even though the Bulls have been asking him to play for months) because it will come down to his health. That's basically saying that he isn't healthy now. Not many people would want to come here without a healthy Rose.

I didn't read it that way. It seems to me he's saying he's better than ever and we're all going to be surprised. He's been playing full-tilt for a long time already. I'll believe it when I see it.

I remember two years ago listening to bernstein keep repeating the horseshit story that he was "dominating in practice", even though no one had seen it. Then when he did come back he looked more like the last guy off the bench than the previous Derrick Rose. I highly doubt the guy we saw for those ten games was dominating any NBA practice. But who knows? Jordan weighs 300 lbs. and can hardly walk but he just straps on a pair of Nike Airs and dominates the Charlotte team at will whenever he wants to.

What was odd is he looked great in the preseason. His play in the preseason had a lot of us thinking about a championship.

I knew he had recruited someone but I forgot who it was. Of course it wasn't a guy that was a threat to his role on the team.

Quote:
"Kirk is someone I could see playing alongside a long time," Rose said on Monday. "When you're a hooper and you know someone on the court is going into a battle with you, and he's not giving up if he knows you are going to keep battling, and I'm someone that will keep fighting to the end, and he's the same as you. So why not have him on the team? Kirk is the first person I recruited."

I'm with you on the "he should help recruit" thing, but I think the above quote is more about his affection for Kirk than anything else. I seem to remember him saying how good Kirk was to him and how much he helped him out his rookie season. As far as his health, don't we all, including the Bulls, have to be of the mindset whatever we get from Rose is gravy? You can't go forward banking on him being what he once was right?

Rose is not a leader & never will be. Sure, he is about as smart as a box of rocks, but still, he should be able to understand that saying that he will not help the Bulls recruit players is going to be a bad publicity move for him, right? He should be able to realize that BJ & his Brother are giving him bad advice.
Joakim Noah is the leader of this Bulls team. Just heard that he is meeting with Mellow tomorrow. Given Derricks mastery of the English language & his ability to communicate, Jo is the better Bulls pitchman.

Just to clarify. Rose should listen to the ethically-challenged rich guy and the doctors employed by that rich guy rather than his own brother who has looked out for him his entire life. Sounds like some great advice!

I think he'd be better served with an adviser more qualified than his brother.

Looks like he's done pretty well so far.

Anyway, I'm sure Jerry just has Rose's best interests in mind, unlike Rose's own brother. I mean, remember when Jerry the lawyer tried to take care of Horace Grant by negotiating directly with him even though he was well aware Grant was represented by counsel?
